Not a parent but a grandparent

Hope it's ok to post this here. I'm after some advice.
My grandpa - who I'm close to and love very much - is dying in hospital. He had a stroke a few weeks ago, rehabilitation etc was discussed but last week he had 2 bleeds on his brain. He's been unresponsive for 5 days albeit with a day of being slightly more responsive (not awake fully but more aware and saying random words) that was 2 days ago, he's been unconscious since. He's had a couple of doses of morphine as his breathing became rapid and he seemed panicked. He's not being given any fluids etc.
my family have been by his bedside since he got worse last week and the first time I'll be able to get there is Saturday (8 hour car journey and not allowed time off work).
I just don't know if I want to go. I saw him 2 mths ago when he was his happy, healthy vibrant self and have great memories of that time. I'm scared to see him dying and not himself. I recognise this is selfish but don't know what to do. I feel awful that I've not helped out yet by being at his bedside and giving other family members a break. I worry that I'll set off and he'll die whilst I journey there. I have no idea how long the dying process he's in could take - does anyone have any experience to share?
Basically, should I go? Would you?

Yes, I'd go. Because I'd need to know that if I had a chance I'd told him how much I love him. And to be there for the rest of the family
