Music scholarship assessment next Tuesday *gulp*

Have found out DD's music scholarship assessment is next Tuesday, she will attend school for the day in her year group and will be assessed academically that way (rather than a formal test) and then will have to play her music (piano and recorder) plus sing as well (which we didn't realise till yesterday).

She is looking forward to going up there for the day and has proudly filled her pencil case with her 'best' pens lol! I however am tearing my hair out with nerves! Hope they don't keep us in suspense for too long with the results!

Have had some really negative responses about private education from some 'friends' and father-in-law in particular.

Just be glad when this is all sorted and we know what we are going to do! Why does nothing ever seem simple?!

Best of luck to your daughter wangle99. Out of interest, how proficient is she at the piano and recorder (and how old)?

Azure She isn't particularly good on the recorder (in my opinion) but is doing well on the piano - taking grade 1 in June, she is 7 years old. Will be just 8 when she takes Grade 1 but is already capable of Grade 3 Aural tests.

She's so excited about going - I hope she enjoys it!

OMG she got in!

They have offered a 30% music scholarship and further means tested help is available!

Absolutely stunned and of course very proud!

Brilliant news wangle99. Ignore your "friends" and FIL - it's not their daughter. The main thing is that she is excited and wants to go. Spending the day there will have helped her get an idea of what it will be like too.

snailspace - We have done some serious soul searching on this one but as DD greeted me after school sobbing YET AGAIN we have made the decsion to take the place. We are currently waiting to hear how much extra help we can get through the means tested bursary.

I questioned the headmaster big time about the musical side of things and he said that DD will not be pushed. He said she is very talented and has an ear for music which in his opinion was more important than the actual playing. I think he wants her for the school choir lol and she can continue with her current piano teacher which was a big bonus as she has a great relationship with him.

I have spoken to other parents who's children go to this school and they are so happy with the care and teaching their children receive I feel very comfortable with it.

I can't wait for her to have a date to start!
