Can anyone tell me, is it really really hard to get yr child into Haileybury Yr 9? Do they lean towards special talents, qualities or are just just looking for a good rounded mix of children?

From what I can gather, the school is academically selective but the standard is lower than St Albans School or Habs Boys'. I have a friend who tried her son for Haileybury, St Albans and Habs. She got offered a place at Haileybury but not the other two (for year 7). I would imagine that for year 9 they would have to sit the Common Entrance exam, I think you can buy example Common Entrance papers over the net. A lot of children have tutors to get them through the entrance exams.... and the prep schools (Aldwickbury for example) certainly prepare them well for these tests. Are you moving your child from the state system?

No she is currently in a private school but I am very unhappy with it, also its not a prep and I wonder would she realistically have much chance to get in yr 9 as a day scholar, the places are so limited.

If you are thinking of moving her to the state system, you might want to get her a tutor (so she can literally be taught to the Haileybury test). I don't see the point of paying for a school that you are not happy with. How old is your daughter and is she happy at her current school?

She is 11+ and happy where she is but on a personal growth level I feel she would be better elsewhere. Also feel her current school has let her down with maths. Caroline 1852 see my other thread "Persuade DD to change school" this explains all, any advice welcome and thanks for your response.
