Devonshire House or Newton Prep

Hi! We are moving here in a few shorts weeks and I wanted to know which school is more academic but also supportive. I have looked at Newton Prep and Devonshire House. It seems like the ISI report for Devonshire is a little lacking and not very useful. I am concerned because the ISI report for Newton Prep says that the teaching is good but not "excellent". My children will be going into the Upper School at both places. Any recommendations?
Thank you.

How long will you be in London?

And if staying for a while, do you know what sort of secondary school you would be hoping for?

Did you spot the replies to your earlier thread. Inter alia posters were recommending the importance of an easy journey. London is a big city.

Hi, just wanted to share my negative experience with Newton Prep. We wanted to register our child who has special needs and the school rejected him even before seeing him. This is paying attention to the fact that on the Goods Schools Guide the position themselves as a school with a healthy SEN department. Shame on Susan Symes from the Registrar who tried to explain to me how exceptional the school is and how special needs children do not feed. Stay away if you can because this arrogance is likely to extend on each and every aspect of their teaching.

I would just like share my experiences of Newton Prep as a parent who has had a child actually going through the school (and sorry Vrubo if your experience wasn't great.)

My Ds was at Newton from nursery until 13. I am possibly somewhat out of date as DS is just going to University.

You must see for yourself but I would certainly say that Newton Prep has some absolutely top notch teachers. Very very good. My son went on to a very selective secondary school and the Newton teachers were excellent in preparing him. He had some excellent specialist subject teachers during his senior years.

He also had an SpLD, again picked up at Newton. We found them a supportive school.

I would not hesitate to send a child there.

As PPs have said think about the journey. Newton is just opposite Battersea Park train station and just over Chelsea Bridge.

Was that under the old head, or the current one, Vrubo ?

The school was not a terribly happy place under the previous head, and the SEN department was essentially abolished during his last couple of years. But one of the first actions of the new head was to restore it.
