What are the options around Tunbridge Wells if your child fails the 11 plus?

It's some way off, but I am worried. My DS is August born and whilst I think he is very bright, I am not sure that he is particularly academic.

Skinners, Judd, TWGS etc are the potential options if he passes, but what if he fails?

I am most interested in independent options. We would be willing to travel half hour, but boarding not a option.

Thanks so much

Public Schools would be Tonbridge and Sevenoaks. Small independents which are mostly non- selective, though there are entrance exams but used more for setting than admissions purposes would be Beechwood in T/W, Sutton Valence, Bethany in Goudhurst, Sackville in Tonbridge and Combe Bank in Sevenoaks which has just gone fully co-ed.

Kent does have two types of Grammar, Judd and Skinners are superselectives so will choose on score, other grammars you just have to pass and then be right distance away. If DC is August born the number of questions they need to get right to pass will be less than the September born child as scores are standardised to take this into account. There is a lot on the elevenplusforum website which should help including a section on independents. Apologies if none of this is new to you, but DD is doing tests in September and my mind is boggling with new vocabulary around school admissions!

Tonbridge intakes at 13+ so ideally you'd need to plan to be in a prep school for years 7 & 8 and register to take pretests in Autumn of year 6. Sevenoaks requires early registration too.
