Looking for a prep school... Are there any league tables I can go to to check their ranking?

There aren't specific league tables because preps vary so much, some prepare for 11+ some for 13+ some don't do SATs some do, some are selective some aren't.

It is more a case of choosing one which suits your child and you. Look at where their leavers go and how many scholarships they get each year. If it is loads, it attracts clever children so probably top of the virtual league table!

If you say what area you are in, posters might have recommendations.

I've seen a list of top 100 prep schools - and several prep schools near me mention it in their advertising; I don't know who compiles it though or how accurate it is.

Tatler?

OP if, in addition to your chosen locality, you could give a description of your child and say what you are looking for in a prep school there are sure to be people here who can give an indication of how well various schools are thought of and how well they might actually suit you.

It was in fact The Sunday Times (2013) - based on KS2 SATs results although of course many prep schools don't sit SATs and so can't be included.

A lot of people I know have started with the range of Senior School they want their DC to go to and then looked at which preps send DC to those schools. You want a prep school that suits your child but also prepares them for entry into the Senior Schools you are interested in. If you were planning on sending your child to Eton then it would make sense to pick a prep which has sent boys there before because they will have a better idea what Eton are looking for.

In my opinion the best way to choose a Prep is to decide what senior school you want and apply to the prep that feeds that school.
Not all Prep schools are good, in fact some are far worse than state schools.

Not quite sure of the rankings on this website. It doesn't mention The Hall and Sussex House which have a better placement to the top senior schools than some of the boys preps mentioned.

Completely agree that you need to look at the child and the destination.
If you have a senior school in mind, which has a prep, this simplifies the process, my own DC did this, and so there was no stress at common Entrance as the school would have alerted us long before and engineered alternatives if they were not expected to pass into the senior school. For those boys who would not have passed, the school found good alternatives and there was no stress for those boys either.
