Hi, my daughter is in the really lucky position of having offers from both Leeds and Newcastle to study Medicine. She didn't expect to have such a great dilemma and is finding it hard to decide which to firm. Does anyone have any views/experiences of either? Thank you so much!

The main thing should be the teaching style, as someone said upthread. Your DD will have looked into all this before she applied but some courses don't let you near real people for a very long time.

And she might think about after the pre clin part of the course - which offers the best clinical rotations? Where do the Deanery's rotations take her - any specialist units she's interested? ( but that's a long way down the road)

I know nothing about medicine, but I grew up near Newcastle and went to university in Leeds, so know (or at least knew - it's been a while!) both cities from a student's perspective. I think I'd agree with the general feeling that Newcastle probably has the edge as a place to live - it's a great city, the quayside area is fab, and having the Northumbrian Coast and countryside on your doorstep is a great bonus. Leeds is also a fab city with lots going on, but of the two I think I'd choose Newcastle.
