Whats Y4 like? My oldest will go into Y4 in September. We are both nervous. Is there anything I can prepare him for over the summer?

Um, IME it's not terribly different to Y3, the syllabus runs, I believe, across Ys3&4 & many schools run mixed Y3/4 classes. I think it's just a natural progression from the previous year.
The big jump comes when they move into Y5 & the work really does go up several notches. Though, again just IME, the children seem mature enough to deal with it at that stage.

Hope your DS has a great year - Mine is looking forward to Y4 as (in a Junior School) he won't be one of the youngest anymore.

What about tables? thought we might get these this year but didnt. They talked about them and used them in their work but no tests occured regularly (unlike spelling which is tested every week).

DS brought home his report today, he did really well I think. He has As and two Bs but no levels so I cant tell if were up on last year or not. Does anyone else get levels or is it all grades?

DS is y4, there hasn't been a big jump in the level of work. He hasn't been given any work on tables, but he is well below the level expected for year 4 (poss dyspraxia). I'm sure though when DD1 was y4 she had tables to do.

DS's junior school grade Very Good, Good, Satisfactory, Needs Support and also say whether they are working at, above or below the level expected for y*.

DS has enjoyed y4 more than y3 as there wasn't the big jump that there was from y2 to y3 (transferred from Infants to Junior). He will be y5 in September, and that will be a big jump for him.
