I have 3 dc , 1 is in yr 3 primary, 1 is in reception and one will be moving to reception in sept.

The state school that 2 of my dc's attend at present has a great reputation , hell, we moved there for that reason!

However we are planning to move our yr 3 child to a private school which we think will be better for him, primarily due to smaller class sizes.

My question is this, do you think it s ok that we leave our dc2 and dc3 in current school until they reach year 3 respectively then move them to the new school? Dc2 is currently doing well in recep and we don't anticipate any problems for dc3 , we just want to make sure they get equal opportunities, hence not moving dc2 and 3 until they reach yr 3, has anyone else done this?

Thanks for reading and sorry it's long!

I think that's fine. Many private (prep) schools have their main intake at Y3 or Y4 anyway - it's a sensible 'break point'. If the younger two are happy at school (and you're happy with the school) then there's no reason to move them. Save yourself a couple of years' worth of fees!

Yes, that's what I was thinking, other 2 are happy, or at least the one is, the other doesn't know yet!

Thanks, I know it's not rocket science but we have been agonising over it for some reason!!

What you are planning is far from unusual. In affluent areas many pupils move from state to private from about year 3/4 while their younger brothers and sisters stay at the state school for the time being.

Thanks for the reassurance!
