Reeds School Cobham

DS1's headmaster has suggested we consider Reeds when DS1 leaves his current school aged 13. Does anyone have any experience of it they could share?

I get the impression that it's a good school if you don't get in somewhere else, IYSWIM.

They have have very large numbers of applicants per place, but many of their applicants don't want to go there, and have more selective schools in mind.

Fees absurdly high. They do include a trip to France or Italy or some such, but still.

Receptive to mild special needs, dyslexia, ASD, etc.

Science seemed quite good, maths I felt was less strong.

I think they take mostly middle (rather than high) ability children, and they do well given their talents, and only the odd one or two Oxbridge-calibre boy gets through, perhaps because of a less-able sibling at the school or something like that.

As you can see, one boy to Cambridge in 2011, one deferred from 2010 to Oxford.

Big on sport, they send tennis players round the world (Tim Henman was an ex). I think there is compulsory rugby, although I believe they said you can choose something else in the upper school.

Relatively uninspiring for the price I felt, but solid enough.

Didn't seem particularly macho, despite all the sport.

Big on sports (I think all their head sports folk are ex-pro, for example) and seem to produce well rounded boys. Not the most academic and quite pricey, but horses for courses really (as with any school)

If you are looking for a day school then would you consider Halliford, Sheperton. My brother went there and its lovely. I wish I could send my son there, but we live too far away.

I would second that, ReallyTired, my DS is in yr 7 at Halliford and I'm really impressed. I looked at Reed's too and liked it, but the high fees put me off. Halliford caters for a very similar type of boy, offers a similar experience (lots of sport, very strong house system, lovely caring ethos etc) but - by year 9 at least - at roughly half the price!

My daughter has received an offer from Reed's and Godolphin for Yr 12 in 2014, she is an international student and is going to be a full boarder. Which school is better?
