Our lot all did Waitrose when in the infants. We're in Waitrose virtually on a daily basis, but they got to see all the background stuff, like the freezers etc. No coach involved as it was a 5 min walk from the school.

In (state-school) reception DS1 went to Norwich Cathedral for a singing session. And to the bank to talk about money.... In Yr1 he's been to Sainsbury's so far (shopping exercise).

Each year the preschool next door has one trip to each: local woods, indoor play centre, local garden centre, local library & a farm... the places not local the parents have to provide all transport to reach. Still, I think that's a lot of outings, many more than DS1 did in playgroup (think they had one trip to a zoo or something similar each year).

DD has been shopping to Tescos as a trip out with her nursery. They take 2 or 3 children every so often. The walk to the shop (a Tescos metro) and useit as a chance to practise using the pedestrain crossing, buy some things for nursery and pay, then walk back through the park to look at the plants and wildlife. DD loves it.

I think they do these trips when they run out of milk and think I know I will take a couple of kids with me and call it an educational trip LOL

DS1 went to Asda then fire station for his yr1 trip; some parents complained.

DS1 actually loved it! They got to see the bakery, and all sorts of behind-the-scenes info. They also did lots of activities about healthy eating, etc.

When ds2 was in yr1 they did a much more exciting trip, involving a 1 hr journey (as just about everything does from here!) and loads of kids were sick on the coach
