Selling an item when you don't know what it's worth??

I won a piece of signed music memorabilia last year and I'm thinking of selling it as I need the money. I have no idea what it's worth and whether it will even sell. I'm thinking of putting it on Ebay worldwide with a low starting price but a high Reserve just to see what interest there is. Has anyone ever done this??

I think ebay is good for this sort of thing, as the market is so huge.

Have you tried looking at completed items to give you an idea of what your item might fetch?

Yes, nothing mega- valuable, but I sold some signed Jam concert tickets, programmes etc.
Tbh, you don't need to know how much they are worth.....you will get what they are worth IYSWIM? I don't think there's any need for a reserve unless it's Jimmy Page's stratocaster we're talking - in which case I'd be questioning its authenticity
I start all my auctions at either 75p or 99p (including a velux window that went for over £200)

Have a look on ebay for similar items. If you can't find anything similar, you could try and look at signed sports shirts/programmes as they may go for a similar price.

Starting low but setting a high reserve is a good idea.

Honestly I'd think that was really annoying. If you want to find out what it's worth, try to find completed items rather than putting something up that you don't intend to sell! Also google for sites that sell memorabilia or for that specific item and see if anyone else is selling it through other means. Much better than faking people out!

I can't find anything like it - It's a large framed piece of signed artwork by Jason Mraz, he's pretty popular at the moment around the world so I think it's probably the best time to sell, but how much someone would pay, I have no idea! My Mum has some lovely letters from Stanley Matthews too and it would be interesting to see how much they are worth.

Does Jason Mraz have any fan forums? That might be the best place to ask, as thats who your potential buyers will be.

But I do intend to sell and I could always lower the reserve if it was at a price where I would be prepared to sell it couldn't I? If it was only worth £20 then I'd rather keep it IYSWIM.

there is no point starting low with a reserve, as the lowest reserve you can set is £50, so anyone looking will know they have to bid at least £50 IYKWIM?

Well, I've put it on to test the water - anyone know if I am able to lower the reserve if people start bidding and it reaches a price I'm happy with?

Yes, you can always lower your reserve price, as long as it remains higher than the highest bid.

also I think that if it doesn't reach it's reserve so therefore doesn't sell you can still offer it to the highest bidder (if it's a price you're happy with obviously) - I don't know for sure about that though so stand to e corrected.
