Help ! Bought a ring from ebay claiming to be 1900-1910 but looks modern to me and is stamped with the word SILVER and not a hallmark, anyone know when jewellery was stamped with the word silver??

Take it to a jewellers and get it looked at. Doesn't sound very old to me...

This isn't something I know about - But I'd say if it doesn't have a hallmark then it isn't silver
(all my knowledge comes from watching too many antique shows on telly)

I'm sure there is a mumsnetter who sells jewelry on ebay....??

...all silver is hallmarked STILL if produced in Britain.
This will be foreign made in which case officially it should have been labelled as "white metal" or "silver from country x" as the British hallmark is the only recognised badge of "silver" in Britain.

Look up the "assay office" in Google...there are several.

It just has the word 'silver' on it - I'm sure i have cheapy jewellery from Thailand somewhere with the same word
