Paying by cheque instead of Paypal - New to this please advise

Can someone explain to me why some sellers would prefer cheque over paypal? I'm interested in an item but seller only wants postal order or cheque. I'd rather pay by Paypal as it means it's more efficient for me as the buyer.

because it's cheaper. paypal take something like 20p plus 3%, plus they make it far too easy for dodgy buyers to claim their money back (and they charge you for the privilege)
