I have sold a monitor to someone in germany. I posted it with special insurance etc and it has arrived. The monitor was brand new in the box so I never took it out. They are now saying there is no way the monitor is brand new as it has scratches all over it. So what am I supposed to do now? It cost £18 to post it to Germany so would be the same ot post back and monitor sold for £47. Now it usually retails at £70 and I am pretty sure it was in perfect condition as I have another here exactly the same.

What sort of record does the buyer have?
Unless you were sold a second or the box was badly damaged it should be fine.

Ask them to email photos of the damage (for Royal Mail ) so that if its true you can compare with the selling photos and complain to Royal Mail and if they don't send you any I wouldn't refund without going through ebay.

mrswho the first thing I asked was whether the box was damaged in transit and they said no it is spotless. So where do I go from here??? Basically it seems they are accusing me of using it which is not the case as I have actually sold a few different types of monitors and had 2 of that specific monitor.

in fact this is the message I have today

I think thats rubbish. A brand new one would not be sold in this condition. You have obviously kept the new one and sent me your 2nd hand rubbish. I am not happy

can you look at his previous transactions to see if he has bought the same monitor before - he may be trying to pull a fast un.

Another thing you can do is ask him to return it and once you have inspected it and checked for your serial number......
(if he is trying to do a swap he will realise he can't get away with it if you have proof of some 'secret' code) - this is often suggested on the ebay boards and quite often the buyer then says oh ok I'll keep it ;)
