Can they still leave me a negative?

500 positives 100%

Just had my first case opened against me for an item not received. The package has evidently been lost as I posted about 8 on the same day and have received feedback for all but this one.

No prior contact from buyer, and as am not mindreader obv didn't know they had never received until getting the case notification today. Have refunded in full and sent polite message, but noticed that they have put on claim that they have contacted me several times and I haven't replied. I told them (politely) I will ask ebay to look for these messages as clearly, if messages from buyers are not getting to me there is something awry (what we know is awry is that they haven't really tried to contact me at all)

Now the case is closed can they still leave me negative feedback?

yes they can - and them asking you a question choosing the option 'where is my item' will automatically open a case - they may not be aware that is the case.

Oh, I sent 2nd class ordinary, as the cheapest option (chosen by the buyer)

Never mind, was only a cheap kids' frock, it's just annoying.

You can post a response underneath their feedback, giving the facts from your side. If it's clearly polite and reasonable (not in shouty capitals as some do!) then people will see that you're a good seller. They'll also see from your other feedback that this is a one-off.

but with proof of postage you can still claim from royal mail, and if the buyer makes a habit of false claims their address should be flagged & investigated.

Yes, I will do that.

Thanks again all.

I would be interested in the name of the buyer. This happened to me recently!

eBay "rules" state that you should aim to solve the problem amicably before resorting to opening a case. When you open a case, it asks you if you have contacted the seller already to try and resolve.

They haven't contacted you before so they lie and write that they have and that you haven't responded. Fucking liars!

In the case that was opened against me, I checked the women's feedback and noted that other sellers had left positive feedback but had indicated that their items went 'missing'. Clearly a scam but nothing that you can do really and I doubt eBay would give a shit.

I left similar positive feedback saying buyer paid quickly but item lost in post and so refunded. I also contacted the buyer and said very, very politely that I had refunded her in full but would be asking eBay to revise at her allegation that she had tried to contact me before as clearly a check of my inbox and her 'sent' items would quite clearly show that no such attempt had been made and that I did not believe it was fair that doubt had been placed on my integrity as a seller etc. Obviously I haven't bothered to contact eBay as I doubt they'd do anything but it made me feel a bit better.

The only thing to do is send recorded or trackable if you have anything of worth to send. Anything I sell over £10 goes trackable.

If this buyer leaves you negative, just respond to the feedback and say 'sorry you were disappointed but item went missing in post and I gave you immediate refund' and leave her a positive feedback to indicate what happened.

I always ignore negatives on feedback if it is clear that the buyer is a scrote and the seller is reasonable.

They have recently changed it though, when a buyer ticks the box where is my item a case is automatically opened, the buyer doesn't get any warning, it is just done by ebay.

And the chances of it being the same buyer are pretty miniscule really. It is a very common trick, which is why sellers need to send with proof of delivery to qualify for seller protection.

Well, the buyer and I have exchanged messages.....I said I was sorry her item hadn't arrived, and that I had refunded her, and also contacted ebay to have them check that messages weren't going awol.

She messaged back saying "how odd I sent you at least 3 inbox messages before opening a claim"

3 inbox messages that I definitely don't have.
