How much did your divorce cost?

I've been lurking around for a wee while and have found the posts very helpful and I've had a few reality checks! I have finally called it a day with my husband who is very controlling and manipulative. We are still living in the house with our two girls, 17 & 15, and he point blank refuses to talk to me about how we are going to split things up and move forward, in actual fact he refuses to talk to me about anything. It looks like he could make my life very difficult and I will have to get a solicitor to move things on which will wind him up even more. I was just wondering how much your divorce cost. I know that this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question but I haven't got a clue.

Mine cost around £3K, my solicitor gave me advice on what I would get if we went court and I used that as a base to negotiate an agreement with my ex. The solicitor then wrote the consent order.

Mine cost me £205 (half the cost of the court fees as XH and I split that between us) as neither of us used a solicitor. There were minimal assets and we agreed with arrangements for the DC.

The court application fee for divorce is £550 in England and Wales.

Fee remission is available for those on lower incomes or benefits:

You don't HAVE to use a solicitor to get divorced, but you may choose to depending on the circs, and it is these fee's that can up quickly.

Legal aid is still available for mediation if you meet the criteria, it's worth looking into, even if it's just to rule it out.

It's not about getting back together, its a method of resolving issues without going to court.

Hope this helps

About £6-8K but that included me having to use two solicitors (one for the actual divorce and one for conveyancing as I bought DH out of our property). I had to pay an additiona £7k to but him out of the propery so was close to £15k in the end.

I was shocked, we had no DC and little in terms of 'assets' but his father is a solicitor and acted for him for free, so did everything he could to cost me money (sendind loads of seperate letters instead of one, because I got charged for each one dealt with, etc etc.) it was quite nasty.

Still, money well spent and we couldn't have done it without solicitors in our case. Luckily exDH was so fed up with it all in the end that he let me keep all of the contents of our flat and didn't take a single thing, so that saved me money!

Cost seems to have gone up since I got divorced, but it was a couple of years ago.
