What is the last refuge of a scoundrel?

I'd always thought it was the Conservative Party, but I have a suspicion it could be "having a dig at single mums".

It's easier than you think. The key is to revel in being gloriously old-fashioned. Just monitor what current trends there are and try and do the complete opposite.

Join a men-only private club and guffaw loudly about 'strapping-filly's' called Penelope, drive a massive 6litre petrol 4x4, take pride in killing innocent animals for fun, wear ridiculously expensive clothes for two weeks that have been made in a sweatshop in Asia and then burn them in the back garden, eat un-ethical foods that have involve animal cruelty and have been flown in especially from half-way round the world (remember to buy way more than you require so you can bin most of it after you have moved outside to have Pimms on the lawn), make sure you tell anyone within earshot that you admire Camerons honesty and think he is a man of integrity and charm, make sure you find a subserviant woman to marry who hasn't had any experience of life or relationships, has been well trained for housekeeping in your absence and is actually your cousins sisters daughter.

That should be a good start i reckon.

Tally Ho!

Being hugely offensive and then claiming that you were being "postmodern" and "ironic" and that anyone who doesn't find you funny is "too politically correct".

EricL has just described most of the people I work with.

"not the men's room on Mumsnet then?"

'course not. We're all highly erudite and enlightened individuals here.

If we were scoundrels, we wouldn't come near the place. We'd dismiss the internet as a medium solely devoted to porn and nerds, 'mums' as being people that look after children (and who should be avoided lest the low IQs and constants gossip erode our masculinity) and Mumsnet would therefore be an ungodly mix of internet and mums, but since normal women aren't clever enough for technology, Mumsnet must therefore be a seething nest of nerdish man-hating lesbians obsessed with porn but all popping out child after child following insemination with a turkey baster and bringing them up in a five bedroom council house while recieving £15,000 a month in benefits from the Nu-Labour PC brigade which is bringing this country to its knees in a sea of proles.
