P.s try home bargains or b&m bargains theybdo branded coffee for much cheaper in fact I buy most of my mom perishables there and just get the fresh stuff at the supermarket. .. brands are often much cheaper than value supermarket stuff!

I tried it. I wanted to like it. I just couldn't. Sad

Might be worth a try, you've not got a lot to lose (well 57p if you hate the Tesco one). Some value tea bags are ok.

It's not worth getting imo. Better to have less of a decent brand, or switch to tea, or give up coffee altogether.

The pound shop often has branded coffee.

could you make a bit of a difference by mixing it with a branded coffee? Say a third value and two third branded. then at least every third jar is value?

Never tried it but might be worth a go

No, no and no. Places like Home Bargains and the Pound Shop often have branded coffee so perhaps you should look elsewhere for a decent brand.

I'll drink instant coffee if thats all there is, but value coffee? no thanks, i'd rather go without!

Value ketchup for me is the best bargain - 23p in tesco and i prefer to the brands.

Have you tried it? You might think it's ok, and if YOU think it's ok, then save the money and screw what anybody else thinks! If I find myself turning my nose up at a particular product (basics coffee, or shampoo, or kitchen cleaner) I try to remind themselves that these are all things that are advertised on TV, which means that it's advertisers who have trained us to be snobby about them. That being so, just once in your life, try each of them with a really open mind. You might find that you hate it, in which case, you don't have to buy it again.

Having said that, I'm actually pretty extravagant with the coffee I buy for home. However, I only drink one a day, and if it's a good one, it keeps me out of Costa on the way to work. Coffee isn't exactly a staple food (even if you're totally addicted to caffeine, one a day should be enough to stave off withdrawal headaches). If you find you're drinking more than you can afford, you have two choices: drink cheaper or drink less.

I have aldi gold and I can't taste the difference between it and nescafe gold blend now. The first couple of mugs I could taste the difference and thought I didn't like it. I persevered only because I had nothing else in the house for over a week and I like it now.

It cost something like ÂŁ2.69 for 200g and I think 200g for nescafe gold was ÂŁ5 in aldi on the same day.

I like Sainsburys and Tescos own Gold Coffee. Tastes the same a Kenko to me. I have tried to like the Aldi and Lidl versions but threw them away in the end, to me they had a weird after taste.

Instant or ground coffee? I seem to remember that we tried Sainsbury's basics ground coffee several years ago and it was fine. We haven't shopped there in a while though. I would imagine value instant coffee would be terrible.

I have twice tried Sainsburys' basics instant coffee and it is not nice in my opinion - I try and buy a decent coffee when it is on offer eg Carte Noire/Kenco/Douwe Egberts but the supermarket own Gold instant coffee is nice too and good value - Asda is the nicest in my opinion but Sainsburys is nice too. Aldi gold teabags always seem to get a good name and won some award I seem to recall but I am not a tea drinker.
