I'm looking to sell gold too Smile Never done it before so don't want to get ripped off!

MIL went into a local jeweller to sell hers, just bits and bobs really and got a few quid for it.

I think it was in the news that some of the ones you send the jewellery to are a bit less competitive on price when it comes to buying it.

That's a nice polite way of saying it, isnt it?

Yes, I've heard that Fluffycloud. I think going round all the local jewellers is my best bet. Can you go to chains like H. Samuels, or does it have to be independents?

I dont know, I've never seen them advertising it so maybe small jewellers are best.

Moneysavingexpert has a section about selling gold. I sold mine to a local independent after comparing prices paid online.

I got about double what I would've got had I sold online Shock

Definitely shop around!

I went around the independent jewellers then to a pop-up in the shopping arcade. Noted the prices and sold to the highest quoted. The variance in offers was huge.

Harvey and THompson or Cash Converters are pretty good.
Also, if you don't really want to sell it, you could pawn it - again, use a big high street chain.

Talking to my jeweller the other day - gold is low at moment and told me to wait till the price went up.

As for a ring - I'm not sure what you'll get but assume it wont be much.

I sold a couple of lots at Hatton Garden Metals - they pay by weight of the gold and have a calculator on their site so you know roughly how much you'll get. They paid me more than the high street jewellers / shops and other online companies plus the money was in my bank account an hour after they had received the goods and I'd confirmed I was happy with the price.

I would second Hatton Garden Metals. I found out about them through Money Saving Expert. They offered a much better price than anyone on the high street and were very efficient. I had quite a bit of gold of my mother's here which I sold and bought a special piece of furniture. (I should stress that she had died, I wasn't just selling off her possessions under her nose). Do remember the adage about selling things off though. That you soon end up without the things OR the money, if you just spend it on daily expenses.
