Must keep going...

I have once again started to attack my 'novel'. I have been writing this thing for YEARS. (I also have a fantastic array of opening chapters that never went anywhere.)

I know what will happen in my story, but I am having to fend off the continual worry that it is total and utter shite.

I've done 4000 words today and need to keep going, but my fingers hurt from typing and the doubt is creeping in again.

(Usually I'm at work FT so don't get much opportunity to write. Plus, I'm lazy.)

I will finish it. It has to happen. But I'm not even halfway yet. And it's bollocks. Sigh.

Sorry. I just needed a place to vent.

Keep going. Do you have a synopsis or are you going with the flow? Good luck!

Are you plotting or pantsing? Sounds like you need a good solid plan and maybe word count or page goals!

I know what I'm going to write - vaguely - so no problem there, just doubting myself. Again. It's why I've been faffing about for the last decade rather than just getting on with it and putting it out there.

I am also notoriously bad at finishing anything. I want to do it for that reason alone!

It is a children's novel, aimed at about 11-12 year old readers. How many words? Myselxia suggests 30,000. I don't want to make it too long as I would like it to be a school reader (ha ha ha - how ambitious am I???!!!).

Who said "Wether you think you can or you think you can't, you are right."?
Just keep going and keep us posted!

Thinking 'it's bollocks' is a normal part of the process. If you spent the entire first draft thinking 'I'm writing the most amazing prose ever,' you'd probably be wrong. Good luck, I hope you finish (says she, who is writing this response rather than getting off her lazy backside and finishing the last few edits of her novel...)

Thanks both of you. Things have slowed up considerably over the weekend. I will do some tomorrow. I promise!

Last edits of your novel medieval: well done and good luck with it Smile.
