Conception

Help! 2nd baby proving more elusive than 1st!

Hi, I don't really know what sort of support I am looking for on here but we have been TTC our second baby since our DD was about 6-8 months old.
We never use contraception and we expected it to happen as easily as DD (naively, perhaps).
DD is now 14 months old and we are starting to wonder if we are actually having problems conceiving or if this is normal?
I am still breastfeeding for the evening feed but my periods returned regularly when DD was 6 months old so I don't know if the BFing is affecting my fertility?

Any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated,

Thanks x

I believe its pretty standard to take up to a year to conceive...

We've been trying for no.2 for about a year now with no joy.

Ds was conceived really quickly, dc2 not so much. But:

  • We're older (both 37)
  • We're more knackered so don't have so many "chances" of conception

I reckon that out of the 12 or so months of trying there's probably only been 4 or 5 where we have actually had intercourse at the right time.

I'm now doing full-on charting, gusset-watching ttc madness so we shall see if that makes any difference...

Gets pretty depressing as you crack open yet another bumper box of folic acid though so I do sympathise.

Hey, thanks for replying everyone.

I guess we're worrying unnecessarily at this stage and everything you have said, Suzi, sounds familiar - especially the 'knackered' bit!

I think I might have to up the ante on the whole charting thing etc.

I was thinking of trying those fertility stick things too - has anyone had any experience/luck with those?

SWI = Shag with Intent, Bit less twee than baby dancing. Warning we are a bit light hearted on the thread but have our more serious too, well sometimes.
