Early ovulation?

I'm at a bit of a loss. I'm in my second cyle of TTC. First cycle I used an OPK, out of curiosity, and got a smiley face right on day 14. I had some EWCM shortly before - didn't last more than a day. It was my second cycle off the mini pill, after 2 years, so I hoped that meant things were on track.

This cycle I had more EWCM - 2 days worth, but it appeared on day 9/10. Does this mean I am ovulating early, or am I not ovulating at all? I've read that when your body is trying to ovulate but not succeeding, you can get EWCM at random times.

Next month I am going to start taking my temperature as I think that will help me work it out, but do any of you have experience of ovulating erratically early in a cycle?

Hi StiffyByng,

I always thought my cycles were pretty much the same length until starting to TTCno.2.
Have now realised that I alternate between a 28 day cycle one month and a 25/26 day cycle the next month. This has been the pattern since November.
Last month CBFM said I ovulated on Day 14 (28 day cycle) and this month ovulated Day 12 (am pretty sure this will be a 26 day month).
So, the day you ovulate can vary. The time from ovulation to AF is however usually constant.
The EWCM may not be random. You may just be about to ovulate earlier than last month.
Hope this is a little helpful!?!

That's really helpful, thanks. Beyond vaguely getting my period around the same sort of time of the month, and almost always on a weekend, I never paid any attention to cycle length before so I could well have varying lengths.
