Temp charting and no thermal shift, am I not ovulating then?

Any advise would be appreciated - I have been taking my body basal temperature and during my ovulation time, I did not see a dip in my temperature pre ovulation or a peak post. I got a smiley face on my opk (which I know are not always reliable but I just wanted to see if I would get a positive during my ovulation period and I did) but I did not really experience any noticeable ewcm during this time. I did notice a bit a couple of days after the opk positive so dh and I kept bd'g.

I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and if it was a sign of not ovulating. DH and I have had a number of tests and the latest from our fertility clinic doctor was that if we are not pregnant by April (he wants me to lose a stone by then) he will start us on clomid and IUI.

Many thanks

Hi fruity pie,

I got myself tied up in knots last year when i started ttc-ing #2 because i didn't seem to get a shift-up in temps after i thought i should be ov-ing (it had been really clear when i was ttc-ing #1) So i started taking my temp vaginally instead and the temp shift pattern was much clearer. It's a bit icky compared to doing it by mouth (lock away that thermometer!)but much much more reliable - temps are around 0.2 degrees higher than in mouth.

The fact you got a smiley OPK is good, but really the only way you can prove you actually OV'd is with a day 21 blood test.

Good luck

Hello Tetleytea

Thank you very much for your reply and tips! If I am unfortunate enough to have the old had AF visit on March 1st, I shall definitely try temping the va-j-j way.

Thank you again

lol Aries girl for tmi. On my previous message, I meant old 'haG' AF. I hope that you were successful with ttc number 2 Tetleytea.

Well I might have to steel myself to do it, but am considering doing the same. I've been "practising" taking temps this month and am going to probably start charting properly from next day one. I noticed the same as the OP - no real pattern, but I think I moved too much, went to loo, etc so the temps weren't accurate. I was doing it in the armpit mind.

Can't imagine doing that in bed though. Just think of my OH stirring sleepily saying "What are you doing?" .I really wouldn't be able to tell him!

Hi Ariesgirl

lol I know what you mean with DH. Hardly 'bed talk' is it? You are right, you need to have been asleep for a minimum of 3 hours apparently and take your temperature as soon as you wake. Ideally take it at the same time everyday but I always do an early wee run but you are given an hours grace either side. The book 'Taking Charge of your Fertility' goes into more detail about the increase in temp if you lay in. I will have a look for the paragraph later if you do not have this book but it is quite a good one to get anyway if you are looking into temping etc., as used in conjunction with monitoring your cervical mucus it will give you a bountiful amount of information about your fertility and make you more aware of your body.
