Ok this is going to sound mental given that I?m pregnant and have a one year old but I have a friend, who also has a one year old who has just asked me the following question?

My last period was 10th Nov, my cycle is 33 days and we had unprotected sex on Nov 29th/30th Nov but he ??pulled out?? ? can I be pregnant? Was I ovulating?

I?m too tired to work it out and don?t fully understand it all?

of course she could be, the withdrawal method is not reliable, as semen and therefore sperm leak out before ejaculation.

you can also ovulate early or late in teh cycle, and sperm can live 5 - 7 days, so you can always get 'caught'

she has to do a test 2 + weeks after the unprotected sex to see

If she was on time with her ovulation, what days would she be ovulation?

The time between ovulation and the next period will be constant (luteal phase).

Tis generally 10-14 days I think.

So your friend would be expecting a period 33 days after 10 Nov, or about 12 Dec, yes?

And if she has a 14 day luteal phase, she would have ov'd 14 days before 12 dec, or 29th Nov. A shorter LP, she would have ov'd later and the sperm could still have been hanging around to fertilise the egg once it hatched.

A funny cycle could, of course, throw the whole calculation!

If she was trying to time sex for conception, she has probably done a pretty good job. If not, well, it took me 13 cycles to fall with DC2 - she isn't preg for certain!

I'm confident she isn't, she is likely overly worrying.

If she doesn't want to be pregnant then it isn't too late to have a coil fitted anyway.

I think it would be a welcome suprise if she is, at least I'll have a shoulder to cry on when I'm pulling my hair our with two babies under 2!

Well in that case the coil's a really crap idea!

We?ve worked it out and think she?d be ovulation up to 27th so there isn?t chance of her catching pregnant after ovulation is there?
