Hello I have a friend who has very short periods, often only a day or two long and very light (she will go through 3 or 4 teeny tampons and I will go through about 40 super heavy ones . She has had two pregnancies (both accidents).

Do you have any other symptoms related to this? And what were your periods like on the pill? Have you noticed chances since the c section, or just since coming off the pill?

If just since coming off pill it may be your body just getting back to normal - can take a while.

Hi - if you're not ttc right now then you could try charting your temperatures for a few cycles. This should tell you if your periods are genuine periods or if they're breakthrough bleeds (i.e. the uterine lining breaking down even though you've not ovulated).

1 day is quite short, so it may mean you're not ovulating yet (it can take a while for your body to regulate after being on the pill).

However, it could all be fine and you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't suffer long periods - and charting will tell you when you ovulate and how long between ovulation and your period (the luteal phase), which will be useful for knowing when to take a pregnancy test.

'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' is a great book that tells you all you need to know about charting your temperatures.

Thanks. When I had periods on the pill they would be for 3 or 4 days. I have quiet heavy period for the one day, but then just spotting on the 2nd day. I suppose it could be my body getting used to coming off the pill. When I came off the pill tc ds my periods were around 3-4 days and it took 4 months tc.
I came off my pill because I kept having pains down below and felt that maybe I should come off it after 15 years of being on it.
I had to have an ultra sound to check it wasn't problem with my c section (ie scar tissue). Luckily things were ok.
I will pop to library and read some books!

Glad you have had the scan to check that things seem to be okay. Did they check your cervical lining to check its thickness, etc?

That was what I was heading towards. I have no periods on the pill and very light/short periods when off - since my c section. All acocmpanied by a good deal of pain. I tried uncsuccessfully to get pregnant for ages. I ended up with a referral. The ultrasound didn't really pick up scaring but it did determine I had a very minimum amount of cervical lining. I was referred for a hysteroscopy which found adhesions in the uterus, from my c section. This is called Asherman's Syndrome - it is a possibility but it is also rather uncommon/rare. I am still having treatment for this but hopefully finished soon - and then fingers crossed.

However if you haven't had your cervial lining checked could be something else to look into.

Thanks hulababy. I have not heard of this. They didn't check my cervical lining as far as I know. I had an ultrasound and they said they needed to see more so I had an internal exam with a tiny camera (lovely) and they said things were 'normal' whatever that means!
I have had a smear test recently too and that came back fine.
I will have to make an appointment with my gp and have a chat with her.

Mind if having heavy periods and normal periods on pill it is more unlikely I would think.
