Weird period after HSG?

I was wondering if any of you could help put my mind at rest...

(Big TMI warning!) I had an HSG at the start of the month which was thankfully normal. AF is not due until the weekend, but yesterday I started spotting which is unusual. When I say spotting, I mean fairly large stringy dark brown clots. This stopped overnight. Today, I have just been to the loo and.. this is really gross so stop now if you're sensitive...I have passed a largish clot (10p size) which i can only describe as a mixture of dark brown sludge and creamy cm.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am hoping its just an 'odd' start to AF due to the dye. I don't have any pain/temp so I don't think it's an infection. For the less squeamish who've made it to the end, I'd be grateful for your advice. Thanks

i suspect it is the hsg but phone the nurses or whatever at the clinic to check. don't worry abuot being too graphic as these people shot dye up fanjo's on a daily basis.

sorry no experience but VERY interested as i am having this done the next few months.

good news that it was clear and good luck with ttc with shiny new tubes!

oh dear I hadn't thought about the possibility of an early mc. I didn't 'fel' pg though. I had actually been priding myself this month on not indulging my pee-on-a-stick addiction!

Good idea to call clinic. I think I've become far too blase (sp?) about what comes out of my fanjo- I worry I will start talking about it at work

as long as you don't start showing them at work - i suspect that is a sackable offense.

I think this can happen after hsg the dye gives your tube a good clean and gets rid of any gunk. I didnt have it after mine but have heard of it before on mn.

thank you for posting cedar, it's reassuring to hear- I tried searching for old posts but wasn't that successful. I am hoping its 'tube gunk'!

I think Lissie had this problem I think she might have posted about it on ttc following an ectopic a few months ago. Good luck your tubes will be lovely and sparkly clean now

yes, had this, for quite a while. rang the fertility nurse and she said that its just all the gunk and crap from your tubes and womb coming back out. as everyone says you will now have lovely sparkly tubes!

Just wanted to add another post saying the same thing... happened to me. Quite a bit of goo came out, slightly grim at the time but sparkly tubes were the upside! Got a bfp the next month, so must have done the job!! Good luck x

yeah, it's not much fun, but it's worth it. The nurse assisting at mine said it's like descaling a kettle! Bleurgh! Even if you haven't got a blockage or scarring there's often bits of mucus stuck up there.
