Laparoscopy advice re: where I am in my cycle

Hello - I posted a while ago after I a horrendous period following my HSG. I am still so grateful to all those who replied - just knowing I can talk freely here helped

Follow up appointment was with the consultant last night an the cyst I have has now got to the size where she wants to remove it via a lap as soon as possible. The hospital have called to say the op is on 16th April (thanks to private healthcare cover).

My problem is I have two scenarios where I am in my cycle due to the meds they gave me during my 2.5 week period.

If I go by my normal cycle (av 28 days) then I am expecting my next period this weekend.

I was given a five day course of progesterone to stop the bleeding (which worked) from 15-19 Mar and then started bleeding again on 21 Mar. This would mean if 21 Mar was CD1 again then I will be on CD27 when the op is scheduled

Does anyone know if a 5 day progesterone course would put my cycle out enough to shift my period out or am I likely to get my period this weekend.

I am guessing that a Lap can not be done if AF is in flow ???

Should I see my GP again to get more progesterone tablets to ensure that if no bleeding starts between now and the OP I can hold it off for a few more days to get the op out of the way.

If you have got this far, thanks for taking the time to read - happy for any advice you may have. Luca

I am no medical expert but I can't see why there would be a problem. I don't recall being asked where I would be in my cycle when I had one years ago. The only thing you would have to wear is a sanitary pad rather than a tampon, which reminds me, I am sure I was on my period as I was given one of those horrendous pads whilst I was there.

Hope it all goes well x

I think when I had one done 7 years ago I was asked when my period was and that I couldn't have it done when I was having one. It did cause some bleeding afterwards and I was given a sanitary towel.

Maybe it depends what you are actually having done during the laparoscopy?
