If I'm not pregnant, where's the blood?

Hello everyone. Can I ask a question? I'm not very well versed in TTC - have done it before but only used an app and I don't know lots of the specifics of conception, cycles etc. So would be grateful for any insight!

I had my last period 20-26 July. Then DTD shortly thereafter - maybe 3 or 4 days, around the end of the month.

On the 10th of August, I got what I thought was food poisoning. It was vile and I couldn't go to work on the Wednesday or Thursday. Made it in on Friday, but had to leave after lunch because of this sudden onset nausea that appeared like clockwork at 1.30pm.

It was only when my colleagues asked if I might be pregnant that the possibility occurred to me. Then when I got light pink spotting on the 13th, I suddenly remembered the implantation bleed from my first pregnancy and realised they might be right. The afternoon sickness was just like my first pregnancy - and while rare, I know it is possible for me to get pregnant very soon after my period as it has happened before. [i was quite young when that pregnancy happened and it ended in a termination.]

However, the bleeding became bright red and carried on - lightly, but fairly continuously - for 3 days. Panty liner kind of flow.

My period was due around the 20th so naturally I tested a million times in the run up to it and in the first few days of it. All negative.

I am fairly sure something was going on. But my questions are:

  1. Where is the blood? I haven't had a period since end July. Was that 3 day light bleed it? Why so light? I've never ever had such a short or light period, like, ever. Did the endometrium not have a chance to build up because something happened (ie a non-viable pregnancy early in the cycle?

  1. What does it mean when someone can get pregnant so soon after their period ends? I have heard the phrase Luteal phase (I think)? Do I have a short one? Long one? Regular one?

Thank you!

If you have not ovulated during that cycle that would explain a light bleed. If all tests are negative I would assume that was your period. If you want to know more about the length of your luteal phase you need to start pinpointing when you ovulate. You can do this by tracking your basel body temperature (Google bbt tracking) and by using ovulation tests (I used the cheap ones available on Amazon). Otherwise it is hard to say how long your your luteal phase is.
