A few others have trouble with the 'flashing smiley' type opks. Really you can never confirm ov without temping.....

Also occasionally everyone has a wacky cycle (anovulatory, longer).... There is only so much science in this. A lot of it is chance...

I know it is a faff, but try taking your temperature every morning before you do anything to make sure you are ovulating.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated - so (please excuse my ignorance, it's actually embarrassing how little attention I've paid this til now) a negative OPK isn't necessarily an indication of no ovulation occurring? Or, as I am worried about in this case, very late ovulation?

You really shouldn't be worried. It's common to have a couple of anovulatory cycles each year, this might be just one of them.
Or, Opks can be hit and miss in terms of accuracy, it could just be that. Or, sometimes it's possible to just randomly ovulate late and have a random long cycle. Often caused by stress or a cold etc. This won't change the length of your luteal phase which will remain the same, so a later period. Certainly no cause for concern.

To be sure to catch the LH surge you need to test more than once a day otherwise you can miss it.

I don't use the flashing smiley tests just the standard ClearBlue digital.

Thanks everyone, I feel a little reassured Smileoff to buy a thermometer now!
