Fixed Term Contract - Maternity pay

I was wondering is someone could shed some light on my fixed term contract.

I am currently on a fixed term contract which is due to finish on the 27th October 2015 (it is a maternity cover) and I am waiting to hear whether it will be extended to a permanent contract. If I was to fall pregnant now and my contract was not extended would I be entitled to any SMP? I was will of worked for the company for 1 year.

Yes you will, until the end of your contract, at which point you'll go to the basic rate.

No as you will be leaving before you would reach your qualifying week which is 15 weeks before the baby is due, if you fell pregnant now you would only be about 15 weeks by the time you are due to leave.

You only qualify for SMP if you have worked for the company for 26 weeks by the qualifying week (15 weeks before your estimated week of childbirth).

If you don't qualify for SMP though you could still claim maternity allowance.
