i am so smelly while ttc :(

Since TTC no.2 with my husband and after using condoms for years prior, I forgot how smelly it gets down in them there lady bits following each session.

I reek :-( usually for about 2 days but the day after dtd the night before I am paranoid I smell like a walking fish counter and find the smell horrid myself. It's so strong. And itchy.

I know it's his sperm reacting with my hormoneywhateveries, but seriously. Does anyone else have this right now?
I shower in the morning & use thin 'dailies' type towels the next day or so but I am ridiculously paranoid that people sitting right next to me at work can smell it and god knows what they think.

Is there anything I can do to stop this whiff? Is it a natural part of ttc or am I having some kind of problem here?

To be honest I don't notice any kind of smell after showering. Maybe you have an infection?

Get checked out.

You can submit a self-taken swab in most places now - your GP surgery should be able to give you 'supplied'.

A 'fishy' smell can be associated with Trichomonas, but could be any number of other things.

I don't remember a particular smell when TTC either.

Get checked, then you can stop worrying Smile

No, have never noticed this at all. Sounds like you have an infection.

I'd get that checked out at the Gp. I don't think it's usual to smell, and certainly not to itch.

I get this, a bit... I wouldn't say it's itchy (but it does bother me in the night if we DTD before bed).

But, it sounds like this is really bothering you - two days of smell post DTD is a bit much. Maybe get it checked?

Maybe an quick internal wipe with a flannel in the morning? You shouldn't still have sperm in you the next day!

Report
littleflick · 22/04/2015 23:10

How do you get a flannel...up there?

Report
GatoradeMeBitch · 22/04/2015 23:11

I'm not sure tbh, I only have a bath. Twist a corner?

Leave your insides alone!
The vagina is a self-cleaning orifice when well Grin

And sperm can survive for 3+ days 'up there', but there should still not be an unpleasant smell.

Get checked.

Did that make any sense?? I'm tired Grin

I tend to soak in the bath and assume that takes care of internal cleansing, but maybe it's trickier for the lucky sods people who have showers? I wouldn't know really...

QueenBean · 22/04/2015 23:16

One's insides don't need to be "cleansed". The vagine is a wonderful self-cleaning thing, don't mess with it by trying to jam a manky old flannel up there! Recipe for disaster!

Do not flannel the fanjo!

Could you have thrush perhaps?

Could be bacterial vaginosis, see the GP, or they sell these pessaries in Superdrug:

It is BV. It's not dangerous but you can treat it with pessaries or gel.
I know exactly the smell you describe. It's very treatable.

You can buy them on Amazon if you don't want to buy them in person.

I was also going to say BV. Susceptible to it myself.
Anyone know why it's worse after sex?

Report
JemFinch · 23/04/2015 07:42

I was going to say BV too

Report
1wokeuplikethis · 23/04/2015 08:42

Ah right. I'm going to google bv now, to be honest I have just thought it was the sperm that comes back out (bleurgh sorry) that caused the smell.
Thanks for helping :)

I had this problem once. I went to the GP and turns out that I had left a tampon in there!! I must have totally forgotten about it (I'd had sex with dh and everything!!). Anyway, she managed to get it out, and the smell when it did come out....!! Anyway, having a smell like that is not right, so you definitely need to get checked out. Sperm doesn't smell.

In case anyone is on a smelly vagina cliffhanger: saw Dr today & was given metronidozel antibiotics from my description. 7 days. If it's still bad next week he will take a swab.

Which as an aside, if that does happen, will mean this doctor has seen my deflated saggy mastitis infected boobs, bum full of piles and now my smelly cabbage.

I do hope he doesn't start frequenting my local hangouts (which is mainly my lounge actually, so probably nothing to fear). Cringe anyway.

Yep no boozin for me. Which after a horrid week at work and a toddler being 'lively' is...just what the doctor ordered apparently.

My heart didn't break at all as I mentally waved goodbye to the well-earned glass of vino. Nope.
