Hi
I'm ttc #3. I've had mirena coil for 4 years and had it removed on 26/3....just wondering what other ppl have experienced regarding periods returning and ovulation. I started bleeding day after removal and it's quite heavy and been for 5 days now...not sure if this is withdrawl bleed or AF? ??? any advice welcome Smile Smile xx

I had what my GP said was a very typical experience

Huge bleed straight after removal. Massive amount of blood, flooding etc for around ten days.

No period then for two months. DD conceived on sixth month (so fourth cycle).

Have heard of women falling pregnant straight away but my GP said more often than not the body needs a few months to build your endometrial layer back up.

yeah I've read a lot about ppl getting pregnant within weeks of removal and then the flip side is it being a good few months. I suppose the upside of it being a few months is as you say it's giving your body chance to get back to normal so to speak. I'm just so impatient lol its only been days since removal but it's been hot topic of conversation for good 6 months so now I just want it to happen now!! x

I had my mirena removed 23-03-15 and still no period. was told by gp to start trying immediately but partner and I want to wait for one period for personal reasons. really painful boobs and sharp period pains every so often. Had thick white mucus type discharge, but still no bleed. getting impatient. research doesn't give me much when I search for length of time between removal and AF...
hope you conceive quickly!! x

You hear so many different story's . ppl conceiving within weeks others taking longer. I suppose it comes down to the individual person. my gp said to try straight away and ive had 5 days of bleeding but not sure if it's an withdrawl bleed or an AF! !!! think on that basis I'm going to count it as a AF and dtd when that predicts my fertile window and see what happens. xx

I had merina coil taken out, had 1 bleed and got caught straight away. Was told by doctor that i could be fertile straight away and sometimes you can get caught before you have a Period Which is ok to do. On the other hand I know ppl with the pill that have taken over a Year.
not sure if my bleed was from having it out or an actual period and I've never had regular periods even before I had any contraception, and have had no periods for 6 years due to injection and coil.
good luck on ttc!

I had my coil removed 19/3 only had some cramping the day it was removed. I had a light 5 day period starting 22/3. Dr said my fertility would go back to normal straight away after removal. Just waiting to see if we have managed to conceive on this cycle. Sounds like your bleed could be a period if it was heavy.

Hi pammy410.
yes I'm thinking it was a period as it was quite heavy.
I'm doing ovulation tests but not had a positive one as yet so fingers crossed for one in next few days.

good luck...Smile hope you get your BFP this time x

From the advice I've been given about ovulation you should get a positive one in the next few days depending on your cycle length. It's all just guess work to start with. I was thinking about trying the ovulation sticks if we haven't had any luck this month. Good luck. Let me know how u get on, it's such and exciting time and great to hear how others are doing. ? x

I had mine removed in January. Two days later I started to bleed which lasted 5 days. I had no idea if this was AF or withdrawal so we decided to wait a month and see what happened.

Exactly 28 days later (from the start of the bleed) AF arrived but only lasted 2 days.

I used ov sticks and in month 1 of TTC I ovulates around day 18, so my system was a little out of sync. AF arrived on a 32 day cycle (so 14 days after ov). AF lasted 5 days

In month 2 I started using ov sticks on day 15 expecting it to be a late ov again and came up with a positive right away! So I bet I ovulated on day 14 and missed it! Grrr. Had a normal 28 day cycle.

In month 3 now of TTC and I think it took a month or two to get my cycle back to normal. As far as AF was concerned... they were light initially and it definitely took time to build my endrometrial layer back up. I hadn't had AF in the 5 years I'd had the mirena coil in.

I hope this information helps!

Thanks wotsits1

I mostly had regular periods with my coil with the odd month of the normal pre AF symptoms then no AF for the 2years I had it. AF came right on time after coil removing so hoping I'll be regular and timed everything right for this month. I did wonder if my cycles would be all over the place for a bit.
fingers crossed for you. good luck. xx
