Spotting and B6 - success

Hi all

I just wanted to share this in the hope that anyone who has the same problem i do might read it. Basically for the past few years I've spotted before my period for a few days, usually up to a week. I've been ttc for a long time (had a mmc in November and have a DD who is now 2.6). I'm pretty confident that I ovulate but the latter part of the cycle was worrying me with the spotting.

Anyhoo - I read somewhere that B6 had helped so I thought I'd try it. I got 50mg tablets from Holland & Barrett and started taking them about 3 weeks ago. After about 10 days I felt like I had a lot more energy which to be honest is enough for me to keep taking them. But even better so far I've not had any spotting and I'm due on in two days.

So anyway I wanted to share this. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get a BFP this month as I don't think I ovulated for once, but I'm pretty pleased with the non-fatigue and the non-spotting so thought I'd share in case anyone else was worried about the same thing.

Very pleased for you! Fx for a bfp soon. I suffer from the same but b6 didn't work for me Hmm reflexology has helped a bit though! I might try both, could be a winning combination!!

I was taking B6 and also B12 for cycles, too. Now I need to go back to it, I just stopped everything, because I just got frsutrated with TTC :)

Good luck - I'm a huge advocate of b6. After 2 mc over 3 yrs of ttc 6 weeks after starting b50 from holland and Barrett I got my sticky bean who is now 9 mo old. A low dose originally got rid of my spotting but the b50 along with good timing got me my ds. The b vits have helped me slept better and feel better in general. A consultant at the dr said it was ok to keep taking it throughout my pregnancy.

Thanks all, I just thought I'd share because I lurk on these boards all the time and it's not something that gets mentioned. I don't really understand why they don't put more B6 in the pregnancy/conception vits in any case as apparently they don't do any harm in doses lower than 200 mg.

liquoriceallsort maybe reflexology will help - it's just such an annoying thing (spotting) and the doctors don't seem to take it seriously at all. When I conceived my daughter I tried acupuncture and chinese herbs and I conceived that month - anyway the reason I'm mentionning it is that chinese medicine is quite big on cycles and women's health so if the reflexology doesn't help perhaps try that.

Andcake that's exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks for sharing.

marryhun I know exactly what you meant. I'm feeling a bit "meh"about TTC myself, but at least the spotting is sorted - and the constant fatigue so i might feel more up for it!

I am so glad you posted this. I too been ttc for 18 months and always have spotting about a week beforehand. Although when I mentioned taking B6 to the consultant he said not to bother , I did this month and am now on day 27 ( usual 29 day cycle) and still no spotting! Also started temping for the first time this month and they are still high. Here's hoping!

Fingers crossed for a BFP and frankly no spotting in itself is just a massive boost for me! Hooray for B6!

I have just ordered some to try too! Did you take it every day or just post ovulation?

I started taking it CD1. Still no spotting D28. That's got to be good?

I started taking b6 last and it worked well, even found it better with cm during ovulation and now can pinpoint it within a day or 2. Af was cd 27 last month and ovulation was one day later this month so now I know af will be cd28. But I really don't af anyway!!

I found out something else about b6 u need to keep taking it til 12 wk of pregnancy and too much of b6 can be harmful.

I took the b50 throughout pregnancy and restarted when ds was about 2 months as it helps with my insomnia if I take it near bedtime. I was told during pregnancy just to make sure I didn't take over 100 when combined ith my prenatal.

Well AF arrived today with only the teeniest hint yesterday, so that's much better (although I'd prefer no AF and a BFP!).

olive I take it every day with preg vits. I've also noted I didn't get my monthly chin spot this month AND my mood is generally more chipper. I am a big fan.

Well, now I'm confused. Am now day 31 of usual 29 day cycle. Taken B6 since CD1 because of spotting. I haven't had any spotting ..... At all! Yey! but...... No BFP and no sign of AF. Temps still high, no spotting, day 31 would all suggest positive but this is turning into a long cycle with no positive result. Not sure what to do. Is the B6 causing an extended cycle ? Should I stop taking it so that I can get AF and start again? So confused...... Any advice?

Hi, I'm now on day 34 and still no AF. Definitely not pregnant ( done 2 tests) . Cycle normally 28/29 days. I think B6 has just made me have an incredibly long cycle. Stopped taking it 2 days ago. Anyone else had this problem? It did stop the spotting but seems to have messed up my cycle. Not sure I will continue. Confused.

That's strange - do you know when you ovulated? B6 is supposed to lengthen luteal phase which is a good thing. How are your temps?

Just started AF! Hurrah! Ovulated day 13 so just had 20 day lutheal phase!!! Might try a lower dose to prevent spotting this month but hopefully not delay AF, should it not end in BFP.

Good, I just take 50mg and that seems to have been plenty - so perhaps try a lower dose (how much were you taking?)

I was taking 100mg. Debating whether to cut it down to 25 mg or cut it out completely this month. I have another blood test day 21 . The month just gone I got a progesterone level of 84 on day 21 which I think the B6 may have had something to do with as it was very high. Might see what it is without the b6 this month. Oh what to do... What to do.....?!

Thank you for making this post. Seven years later and women are still looking through the internet with this problem, and with little help from docs. I’ve ordered my Holland and barrett b6 in 50mg. So I’m hoping that it helps stop my spotting too.

Hi ladies
Wanted to add to the thread...
I had a mmc in June this year and whilst my cycle length was back normal the following month, I started to get spotting the week before af.
I had a chemical pregnancy a 3 cycles later and researched about the link between low progesterone/spotting/chemical pregnancy.
Anyways, I started taking berocca as this is the a big vit b complex..... no spotting this past cycle and got my bfp!! So for me, it worked straight away!
I agree there needs to be more research into this as it certainly appears to be the root of issues for a lot of women.
I'm no longer taking it as it shouldn't be taken in pregnancy so have switched to pregnancy vits. The bonus with berocca is it has folic acid in it too.
But I think any good strength vit b complex would work (I just couldn't get to a Holland and Barrett!).
Good luck to you all!!

@Candyflosscrochet wow congratulations on your bfp. Sorry to hear of your loss. Your story sounds similar to mine. I had a mc back in March and have had a regular cycle but spotting up to a week before af ever since. Plus a chemical last month. In addition to that I was breastfeeding before I got pg with my mc for 17 months, so I think that has wreaked havoc with my hormones.
Just took my b vitamins for the first time. 50mg b6 twice a day, 500ug (don’t know what that means!) b12 twice a day and then b complex in a low dose as well. I’m hoping my spotting stops or bfp. Thank you for sharing your story. Wishing you a very healthy pregnancy 😊

Year later and this post is still helpful! Starting b6 today, and I am so excited. Just curious, did any of you ladies ever try Vitex for the spotting issue? If so, did it help, or cause more problems in the end?

@Stepmama4 hi good luck with the b6. I tried vitex and it didn’t help with my spotting but I have heard lots of people say it helped them.

@Stepmama4 by the way the vitamin b6 worked for me the very first cycle and I’m now 15 weeks pregnant 😍 another success story for the b6. Baby dust to you!
