Hi...dh and I would like to try for another baby ...i think im too old ...have one dd age 12 but had several miscarriages before and after we had her...most people would think I'm mad wanting too try again but I feel as if motherhood wasn't forfilled for me ..I had endometriosis which was treated in my 20s.. But it left me with scarred tubes ..I was last pregnant aged 39 ..docs never found any cause for the miscarriages ..i was told it was just one of these things ..

Can you get some fertility tests done through your GP or privately if you have the money? It should give you an indication of whether you are still producing eggs although these are not the be all and end all.

It sounds like you would regret not trying again although those miscarriages must have been heartbreaking. There may have been advances over the past few years though that could help. Have you ever tried taking progesterone on a natural cycle?

Good luck whatever you decide xx

The only medication I have ever been on was prostap injections for the endometriosis in my mid 20s...I could ask my doc to check if I'm ovulating etc..just don't want to go down the road of being totally devastated every time my period comes...which has been the case many many times..also noticed a change in my monthly cycle ..used to have my period for 6/7 days cycle was 28 days ...last few months its been every 25/26 days lasting for about 2 days ..I don't know if that's the start of the menopause ..I'm hoping I've not left things too late ..

Hi

My DP and I (both 43) have been TTC for 9 months. Tests revealed that I am ovulating every month but only have one functioning ovary and I have very low ovarian reserve. DPs sperm wasn't tip top but ok. I have never been pregnant before and last week I got my BFP Grin.

My point is - if you want another child, go for it, it is possible! There is a fabulous forties thread for women who are trying which is very supportive and offers great advice.

Congrats Greenlizard

FWIW my Mum was 40 when I was born. They had tried when they were younger, had the few tests available and adopted two children. Mum had had miscarriages. Then... surprise

starlite - make it May! And we'll both be on it, right :)

PS my grandmother (pre the pill) had her last at 45 - although there was a gap of almost 5 years after her second from last - who was born when she was 40 (previously babies had been coming at an average of about 18 months - acc to my Dad who is a maths prof, hahah). So there. But here we are, or at least here I am, post pill, getting anxious that we have to wait... though obvs, Star, we're only going to be waiting a couple more weeks :)
