Ttc dc2 with polycystic ovaries- advice needed

It took 18 months to conceive DD1 and in the process I was diagnosed with PCOS.Now were trying again.
I found the diagnosis a little contradictory but hey ho. What did fit was that my cycles were really erratic and I wasn't ovulating each time. I was about to go on chlomid when, much to my relief I got pregnant with DD.I stopped breastfeeding at 12 months and my periods have come back but I'm not sure how regular they are yet.I just wondered if anyone had any advice or had been in a similar situation. Should I go straight back to my doctor and try chlomid again or wait and see if my cycles are normal? I just turned 35...
Oh, should say we've been trying for 3 months but not with any sort of planning, if that makes sense.

Hi, I actually can't help as I haven't yet ttc #1 but I did hear that sometimes PCOS can improve once you've had a baby as your hormones change? I have PCOS and don't think I'm ovulating (erratic cycles, never seen EWCM) and I'm about to start clomid in Feb - however now I've seen your thread I'm wondering if maybe I ovulate now and again? Did you have ovulation signs? Did you know now often you were ovulating or how to spot an ovulatory cycle?

Good luck Smile

Hi Alexandra, I think we were lucky with ovulating as my doctor happened to spot that I was about to ovulate when I went in for a scan. Other than that I had no symptoms and tried temp charting and test sticks to no avail. Similarly my cycles were erratic and often really long 60-70 days sometimes.
The doctor said I was probably ovulating some of those cycles but difficult to know when and plan sex accordingly.
If you do go the clomid route best of luck. Apparently it's quite common to get pregnant just before you start treatment as your body relaxes or something.

Thanks sprite I came off AF last week and am off to the Maldives next Friday for one last holiday before clomid and then hopefully a BFP - so wouldn't it be amazing if I got a BFP naturally this cycle! Although maybe thinking about it so much is working against the relaxing thing?! I'm going out of my mind with the ttc thing tbh, finding it hard to keep my spirits up. Were you like this when you were ttc for 18 months? Is it easier struggling ttc #2 because you have one already or does it feel as bad?

A holiday pre- clomid sounds very promising but yes, I hope you can just relax and enjoy yourself. I have a really stressful month coming up so it seems unlikely. It's exhausting wondering and waiting each cycle but as we have only just started trying again I'm not too anxious, yet.

Hi I'm just commenting about the comment pcos gets better after having a baby.
This is not true and with myself I had my son naturally and caught first time having sex, I'm now ttc #2 an have been for 2 years and my pcos has gone so bad I can go up too 18 weeks with out a period. I've just started clomid and am hoping that this will help.
Good luck with ttc x

Thanks Sarah, that's really helpful and a caution that I shouldn't be complacent.
At what point did you go to your doctor when ttc#2 and how long did it take to then get to the point you are now, about to take clomid.
With DD1 it took about 6 months from first speaking to GP to being prescribed clomid, which I then didn't need to take.
So far my cycles have been reasonable post breastfeeding but I have no idea if I'm ovulating.

It took around 4 months from first going to the doctors to then be sent to a specialist, from there it was around 5months as I had to have loads of tests to confirm it was pcos and nothing else once I was diagnosed I was given clomid. If I was you I'd go back and see what they say, they might give it to you then or they might say try for abit and if you don't conceive they will give it you, best to get the ball rolling sooner even if you do conceive naturally, it's still there if you don't.
I also don't know if I'm ovulating as iv never been tested but I will find out Thursday as I have my first scan on my first clomid cycle. I was told to do the ovulating test sticks from around 3 days before you think you ovulate and that will tell you. Hope this helps :-)

I have pcos. At 21 I got pregnant unexpectedly, then at 26 started trying for dc2 not knowing I had any fertility problems other than erratic cycles. Two years down the line no bfp. I have just finished my first cycle of clomid and feel like my AF is on the way. The big difference between me at 26 and me at 21 is that my weight has went up and although I hav lost three stone I still need to loose another three. My gp and gynae have both made the point about the weight! Has your weight want up at all?

im the same when i fell pregnant at 18 i was a size 8 im now 12-14 which i have also been told wil effect pcos, but the other thing is that pcos is a vicious circle when it comes to weight as it can cause you to put weight on, but it also very hard to loose the weight with pcos. you have to stick to it religiously to loose it. Well done for loosing 3 stone Smile

Thanks for your experiences Tilly. I hope you're wrong about AF being on the way...
In response to your question, my weight is about the same as it was when I was trying to conceive DD1. At the time my doctor suggested cutting back on my running and even gaining a bit of weight (said it wouldn't hurt) in order to get pregnant.
I was a bit Hmm about the PCOS diagnosis at first because I didn't seem to fit any of the other symptoms but the cysts were there on the scan and I did have gestational diabetes while I was pregnant. I'm sure that was related.

Pcos can be very individualistic in terms of what symptoms you get...unfortunately I have all the horrible ones Sad I think you should go straight back to your doctor and you can be trying while things are set in motion! I'm guessing you don't want a huge gap! As it stands there will be at least 7 years between my ds and any other dc if I was to get a bfp now, every month I can feel that gap getting wider!
