Hi all

I posted this www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/1208997-missed-pill-very-near-end-of-pack-unsure-if-pregnant

I have had the strangest time in the last few days. I did a HPT on monday, and it came up with a faint + line (the horizontal was darker). The reason for my testing was that my period seemed to have started but I only had a small amount of pinkish / redish cloudy blood, and the rest of it has been old brown stuff. my "period" came on on sunday. My man and I had had sex the night before. Now, on monday morning I decided to use towels rather than tampax. Since then everytime I have gone for a wee, I have checked the towels and nothing has been on them. But when I wipe myself it is the old brown stuff that is present. But yet nothing comes down onto the towel. I am still getting the odd cramping here and there. I have been going for a wee quite often.

This period is the same heaviness as the last one in April (i.e. almost non-exsistent!!). Well this morning I decided to do another HPT and it came up with a -ive. Now I am confused!! The pregnancy test I have been using is Clearblue plus (is currently on special offer :) ) should I try a different one?? if so suggestions would be lovely?? Or could it be that I am further along in a pregnancy that I am now coming up with a hook effect, or could it be something else?? I am so confused. :(

I am waiting to hear back from the doctor for a phone consultation (extreemly busy doc). I need to change my pill as the pill I am on (YASMIN) is causing me problems anyway, one of which is breathlessness. I am suppose to be starting my new pill pack (whichever pill it may be) this evening. But of course now have the uncertainty of am I aren't I on the pregnancy stakes, I would not feel happy taking the pill if I am.

Has anyone ever had this at all, or any advice would be really helpful.

Sorry if there has been TMI on describing how it's been, I just don't know how else to explain it.

TIA.

Hi abi The only advice I can really offer is about the clear blue tests. I got 3 false positives on them, all faint lines. I have read so many bad things about them that I refuse to use them anymore.

Not to say that yours is a false positive, but I would say go out and get a different brand of test, maybe a FR or another one that uses pink dye. I think they are meant to be much clearer and easier to read that blue ones.

Hope that helps a little. Keep us posted as to how you get on. Hope you get the answer you want Smile

Hi maybebabyR

I am so confused, we weren't TTC at all, but would never turn down if I became pg. I think for us women its more frustrating when the answers aren't clear.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will keep this updated.

Does anyone else have any experiences of this?

TIA.

Hi abi I second maybe 's thoughts on clearblue tests - I've had loads of false positives with them. As I understand it, if the line is faint and thin, it could well be a false positive; it needs to be fat (as thick as the horizontal line) to be a "real" positive.

Hope you're OK and it's not driving you too bonkers!

well, I was going to swap over the clear blue for first response, but by the time I got back from where I was this afternoon, I just wanted to get home in the end!!

I just feel frustrated, that I just don't know! I am going to pop to tesco this evening and grab one of their tests or something that has pink die rather than blue. Why is it that blue die is less reliable??

The line came up within the 2 minute time, and it was a faint wide line like the horizontal one.

I managed to get to see the doc, who didn't really listen to me explain what was going on (normally he is really good!). He just said to me, try a pregnancy test in a weeks time, and if negative then start on the new pill he has put me on which is called Cerazette. I have cramps again, and I did have two wipes of bright pink blood, then it has just gone back to old brown stuff (sorry for TMI!). I really wish I knew what my body was up to!!

If anyone else would like to comment, please do. Thanks to you lovely ladies in answering my post already :)

Hi Abi that is very Confused for you.

I am certainly not an expert but I would definitely try another HPT tomorrow - FRER are very good and I think Superdrug own brand are meant to be very sensitive (and cheaper!).

I wish I could give you more definite advice but try to look after yourself tonight and keep us updated on how you get on tomorrow,

here's a big Brew of calm

Hi gardenpixie.

Thank you very much for your kind words and big mug of clam. I was thinking that maybe I should try another test tomorrow that way I have spaced each test two days apart. Aha, I did wonder about the superdrug tests. HPT can be so expensive, but what I might do today is swap the CB over for the FRER and also grab some superdrug ones whilst I am at it. Why is it that the pink ink ones are better than blue??

I just would like to know one way or another, it's worse not knowing because then you just don't know how to deal with the situation. I am a true Libran, I love balance (not that it happens often!).xxx

Will keep updated, and if anyone wants to still comment in the meantime please do as it is always appreciated.

TIA xxx

Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you abi

I think the main problem with the blue ones is that the dye has a tendency to run, making a vertical line when it should just be a horizontal line.

I think all the pink ones (as far as I know) are the type where there is only a vertical line (no cross) so makes them a bit more reliable. You are right about how expensive it is though. Apparently the superdrug ones are good, and I have heard good things about Asda and Tesco own brand ones too.

Good Luck!x

Hi maybebabyR

thank you for you lovely reply and also the advice. I find it amazing that these companies probably know of that fault and yet they don't do any thing to rectify how it tests!!

I think I will give the superdrug ones a try, will grab some first response ones too whilst I am there!

Thanks ladies :D If anyone else would like to comment please feel free, always welcome advice xxx

Hey ladies

Just wanted to update you all. I did a FRER this morning as haven't been able to get out to get to superdrug in time. The test came up as negative. I am still have pregnancy symptoms. I think I mentioned my doc said to me to test in a weeks time when I saw him wednesday just gone (yep you guessed it, he didn't do a test!!). He said if that was negative to start the pill. He said that it could be too early to test or that I was pg and not anymore.

I have decided to stop stressing myself out. I have decided to test using two different specimen pots of the same wee (yep party trick coming up, ha ha!) One I will just have as wee, just in case I has tested to early, and the other pot will be diltued just in case of the hook effect. I have the superdrug tests now :) and they were on offer (just incase you want to know two pk x 2 is £7.99 :) ). This will be done this wed coming. If both come out negative then I know I have lost. This has happened a couple of times to me, but still upsetting. I know I feel pregnant, going by my gut instinct. Does that make sense, that you just know??

At the moment still getting tummy cramps but not as bad, heartburn, a tad of nausea, weeing lot's, slightly tender breasts here and there, quite bad back ache, teary at the wrong moments!! the list goes on, but hey who knows.....

Thank you all for being so kind, again if anyone else wants to comment please do.

TIA

Hi all

Would be really grateful of the advice :D

Dilution should be 1:10, reference:this website and this website

I doubt very much that you are pregnant, as others have said here the blue +/- tests are notorious for false positive results.

It sounds like the last pill that you were taking did not suit you and you are changing to a different one, so that alone might explain the weird/absent periods.

I hope that the tests tomorrow put your mind at rest.

Hi There

Thanks for the reply and links. Its amazing how much our bodies confuse us isn't it. I will be doing the test tomorrow morning, and I am doing two like this because I just want to make doubley sure that I am definately not pregnant before I start taking this new pill I have been prescribed. Hopefully I will get on with these pills (if not pg of course) as I am fed up of having ones that just dont agree with my body.

I just hate the idea of taking pill if I am pregnant, so I just wont do it, not until I know for sure. My doc thinks that I might have been pg and then m/c or had a chemical pregnancy. I have had two like this since the birth of our DS, so not ruling that out either. My hormones are all over the place at the mo, so I just know how I am feeling :(

Thanks ladies.x

Hi there

Well I did the two tests this morning. the diluted and the normal. Both were -ive. Phew. I have to say I am a little relieved, because I don't think I was mentally ready to take on another child yet. And if I am not ready mentally then I am going to be no use to our DS and a new baby. I am a little disappointed too, but can cope, as it clearly was not meant to be.

I still have the symptoms, but on a lesser scale. So my question is, a week and a two days ago I got a positive (allbeit a faint one, but still a positive. I know I was because my gut instinct told me, I felt preg), two days after that I got a negative, but I still felt preg, and as time has gone along I have felt it less and less. This morning, when I went to do the tests, I didn't feel preg anymore, but I am still getting some of the symptoms. I still did the tests just to be on the safe side (due to taking new pill this evening). I guess I am just trying to figure out why I would still be feeling some symptoms. My doc thinks I had a chemical preg, which is where I wonder if I am just getting to the end of the symptoms, how long until the symptons wear off??!!

Thank you all so very much for the support, you have been amazing.
