Hi everyone, I posted this in another thread but then realised it might have been better to start afresh.
I'm completely new here but wondered if anyone had an experience like mine. I'm 29, healthy and had normal periods in the past, but was on the pill for the best part of 9 years. I came off at the start of September to hopefully get pregnant asap but since then I've only had two periods - one in November and one in January - and to be honest you could hardly call them periods. Each one only lasted a day or so and was very light. I've had what feels like period pain many times but otherwise nothing else.
I dont know what to do really. Do I just have to keep waiting - or is it worth going to the GP? It's so frustrating and I'm finding it hard not to get upset. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Go to the doctors. It might be nothing, but thats what they're there for. There is no point holding off and beating yourself up about what might or might not be wrong. You never know, there may be a simple solution.

Good luck x

Would go to the GPs in these particular circumstances.

I would not think that the pill has itself caused this to arise. What the pill can do though is mask symptoms of hormonal imbalances that have always been present.

Blood tests should be done to see if there are problems with the thyroid gland. A condition called polycystic ovaries can also cause periods to become irregular in nature as well. Both of these can be detected via blood tests.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate your replies. It's hard to know what to do, but I think I'll go to the docs and at least get the ball rolling.

I came off Microgynon Christmas 2009 after being on it for about 10 years and it is only a year later that I am experiencing a regular (ish) cycle again. sorry to say that!

went to the doctor repeatedly and they told me it 'can take up to a year' and really were not interested. Eventually pushed and had bloods, hormone tests done and all fine but is still only now that I am beginning to regulate again.

i also took over a year to become regular after being on the pill for ten years, i went to drs who took tests just to make sure no other issues but it may be a waiting game for you. I know how you feel, i was annoyed at the time as i don't think this issue is ever talked about, i've vowed off hormones since.

I agree Kaz. Had I known how long it would take for me to go back to a regular cycle I really don't think I would have ever gone on it.

One doctor just didn't see the problem and told me it didnt matter because they could give me Clomid if I was infertile...not really addressing the problem!

Good luck OP - I hope they come back quickly x
