hsg and antibiotics?

Hello ladies,
i had a hsg done last year and no antibiotics were suggested, however i am having another one done next month at a different hospital and they have given me two different types of antibiotics. It seems a bit strange that not all hospitals advised them, any ideas as to why, is there really a need for them?

Thanks
XXX.

It's pretty normal to be given a big one-off dose antibiotics for an HSG (I was).

It's because they putting dye into your innards and there is a (small) risk of infection. I only have one tube so any risk of the other one getting damaged in any way is too much of a risk.

Hi, when I had an HSG done just before christmas I was given a 5 day dose of antibiotics, I was told there is about a 1% risk of infection when having the procedure. I'd definitely take the if I was you and were given them, not worth taking the risk in my opinion.

Good luck and hope it all goes well
