Possible dermoid cyst, endo, laparoscopy.

Hi, need some voices of reason. Saw GYN yesterday, after scan showed what apeared to be a dermoid cyst (3 weeks of discomfort in lower tummy). He did an internal and when he moved my uterus it was really uncomfortable, said I might have some endo. Will have a laparoscopy on the 23/10. I am so anxious about it all, I have 1 son but would love another. I feel so uncomfortable can't help thinking the worse. Dermoid cyst is small so unlikely to cause pain. Can endo come on suddenly? Symptoms are: discomfort in pelvic area and full feeling, tugging pain, uncomfortable when having sex, nausea, sore boobs. Any one had similar experience?

Had the same experience, except my dermoid cyst was size of melon. Obviously it stopped me conceiving and I had surgery to remove cyst (which are apparently caused by ovarian endemetriosis ). Eventually ( long story )had 2nd child but with 5 and a half year age gap. All worth it, DS is as gorgeous as his sister.

Hi JoJo - don't have time to do a long post atm but search hunkermunker (my non-Hallowe'en name) and endometriosis and you'll probably find some stuff I have posted in the past.

Hope you're feeling more comfortable soon - don't worry about the laparoscopy - I've had three and they're sore, but you do get better pretty quickly IME.

Am sorry that I cannot comment on the dermoid cyst as I was not diagnosed with this.

I hope the lap will provide you with some answers. Deep pain during sex (especially that particular problem) along with pelvic pain can be suggestive of endo I am sorry to report.

If you have painful periods as well this can also be symptomatic of endo being present.

In general any symptoms that are cyclical in nature, and that get worse during menstruation may be due to endo.

Please try not to worry too much about the lap (know that is hard though to do). The worst thing I found about the whole thing was not so much the operation but the pain in the shoulders afterwards caused by the carbon dioxide gas. They use C02 to get a better view of the uterus and other organs. It is keyhole surgery so no noticeable scarring.

You need to find out exactly when you will be followed up post op, you should be aware of this prior to surgery.

Some questions you may want to ask post op are as follows:-
Were your ovaries and fallopian tubes healthy?
Did you have an ovarian endometrioma - if so how big?
Did you have many adhesions?
Was there any bowel or bladder involvement?
What stage is your endo?
Were any nerves cut to relieve your pain?
What further treatment is recommended?

Thanks for feedback. With endo can you feel nauseas? I have been feeling really sick especially when I eat.
