my son was born last week Friday. i noticed one of his ears must have been pressing against something in the womb as it's a bit bent out of shape.
if i reposition it gently i can see it's formed the same as the other ear but just a bit sort of 'rumpled' and flat iyswim
his nose was also squished a bit flat.

his nose has almost righted itself but his ear hasn't sprung back into shape.

i am just wondering if i need to do something...sort of like the reverse of ear buddies perhaps. is there such a thing?

i am just wondering because as there is such a thing as ear buddies and they are meant to work quite quickly in changing the shape of the ear in a baby, maybe if i don't take action his ear will stay like this?

apologies if i'm being a loony

Hi my ds had a fold in his ear lobe, its difficult to explain. It wasnt very obvious but I was concernd that it would get worse as h got older. He is now 4 and although there is still a 'fold'/'lumpy' bit it doesnt really show and has improved an awful lot. No one ever points it out. I would imagine it will be fine.

Do nothing! My DS was born with two very mis-shapen ears. We tried to right one (with masking tape, I'm ashamed to admit) and left the other. The one we left was back to normal within 6 weeks and the other took slightly longer, but absolutely fine now.

If you want to use Ear Buddies, don't buy any I have got some virtually unused one's you can have, you just need to get the tape.

My Ds3 had the same, one ear is rather vulcan/pixie like still, and he's nearly 9 months...its just cute!

DS2 had a squished ear and a folded ear - I mostly left it alone (but took care to unfold it if he'd been lying on my arm bfing and it was folded as a result) and it reset itself and was perfectly normal looking by 3 months. So leave it I guess.

When my ds was born, his ears were squished into all sorts of funny shapes. My mum refered to them as rugby players ears.

He's now 3 and they are perfectly normal. I can't remember when it happened though.

I would do nothing about your ds. I'd be very surprised it if didn't sort itself out by itself.

Lol at redllama's poor child! Did they mind having tape removed?

ds2 was born with a 'squashed' ear but it soon went into the same shape as the other one within a couple of weeks.

I was advised by my godmother (who is an indepedent midwife) to tape DD2's one wonky/sticky-out ear with Micropor paper dressing tape. She was told this by paed plastic surgeon to avoid need for ear pinning later on. DD used to rub head back and forth and would lie on ear when it was folded over.

Taping can only be done up to eight weeks then the cartilidge firms up and the shape will be permament.

But equally it will most likely sort itself out on its own.

I had to leave the room for the tape removal... DH took on the role of Dr with relish, forgetting the tape would have to come off. Nothing that couldn't be consoled with a bit of bf-ing!
