Eczema and milk

DD 2yrs 3mo has developed eczema which I've got creams for from the GP.
Reading through some of the previous threads regarding eczema, I've noticed some mums recommend substituting cows milk for goats milk so we're starting this today. What I want to know is - should I avoid giving her Petit Filou (which she adores) and ice cream too? Is there anything else I can try doing? I've switched from Fairy to Ecover to see if that helps. Her wrists and ankles are the worst areas affected - red raw at times.

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

If you are thinking of cutting dairy from her diet I would suggest you consult your GP first. It involves a lot more than just changing her milk, it would mean excluding all products that contain dairy, like yoghurt, ice cream, butter and lots of products that you would not have thought of. It really is a big change and you have to make sure your dd will get her calcium and other essentials in a different way.
When we did it with our DS we were referred to a dietician.

Other things you could try is not using any perfumed products like soap, showergel, fabric softener. See if you can get some special bath stuff on prescription. And make sure you keep putting cream on the affected areas, if a cream doesn't work try another, it really is a case of try and error to see which one suits your dd best.

HTH and good luck.

Crunchbag - sounds like you have been through various creams. Could you give me some ideas, I've tried E45 moisturiser, sudacream and oilatum for sore patches on my DSs leg creases. Not sure if I would call it ezcema but it certainly looks very sore and has started pealing.

ExplodingBananas (like the name ) we tried out various emulsifying ointments, the very thick and greasy cream, and for DS Epaderm worked the best. We got them all on prescription so I can't really remember any specific brand names (if there were any).

Crunchbag - thanks for your reply. I'll ask the GP about it.
I have some stuff for the bath but I've still been using fabric softener in the wash so will cut that out.
Is your DS okay now? Did you find a link?

Thanks Crunchbag, I might try the GP again, that was where the oilatum came from. I joined when I was weaning DS and spending alot of time cleaning bananas off floors, walls etc

Happy, my DS is fine now, only has mild eczema now and again. In his case is was definitively linked to dairy (and a few other things like pollen) but I am happy to say that he has outgrown the allergy and now goes through gallons of the white stuff

Have you tried piriton syrup when they get very itchy, I found it to really make a difference. I think you need a prescription for it when your child is under 5.
