Am concerned, found DD aged 9 had a few grey hairs last year, now they are progressing +++ also since Christmas noticed DD2and DS1 also got several. All kids under 12yrs. Am worried in case its something enviromental, mobile phone masts gone up in local area, and wifi in sch or at home. DH says this is v unlikely but what do I do next, v worried indeed!

Don't know about environmental factors but premature grey hair can be caused by folic acid deficiency. Maybe you could try a supplement?

I had my first grey hairs at 9, and by 13/14 had loads. But by 20 all my grey hairs had vanished. Looking back the grey hairs tied up with puberty. Also, for me, a strange side effect of pregnancy was that any grey hairs vanished.

So in a rambling kind of way I'm trying to say that, for me, grey hairs seem to be hormonal.

Just another point - at 9 I actually thought grey hairs were fairly cool, and was resigned to being totally grey at 20.

In my family it's hereditry to go totally white very young, not quite as young as 9 though. I have 3 cousins who were all white by their late teens early 20's. My granny likes to tell me that I'm lucky to have got to my 30's without being totally white, I do have a fair amount of grey hairs though.

Is it hereditry in your family to go grey fairly young?
