Ds has been complaining on & off all day of a pain, left side, below waist above thigh, he says it's "inside". This evening it's got worse, I had to give him Calpol for the pain tonight before bed and he's just woken up crying, 5hrs after the first lot of pain relief.

He can walk, doesn't seem to be movement aggravated.

He has been "regular" today, so don't think it's constipation.

Any ideas?

Does he have pain enywhere else eg testicular pain?

No, he hasn't said so. He's not good at pain, but it must be sore to have woken him.

Just a bit worried it could be something serious, not that I have any idea what.

Appendics are on the right, right?

I think that if I was in your situation I would aim to get him seen by a doctor. The reason that I asked about testicular pain was in case the pain was coming from there and he had been embarrassed to mention it.
Either way, it does sound worth getting him looked at.

growing pains? I had awful hip pain, so did DP.

Just an idea, in no way a diagnosis - just offering as a suggestion.

Appendix pain very often starts on the left, and moves to the right. If it moves over to the right, ambulance immediately. Another question to ask is if he's had grumbling pain in that area in the last few months.

Thank you both,

He's just got up for wee and the last lot of calpol seems to have taken effect.

I will take him to the GP tomorrow if it is still bad in the morning.
Growing pains, could be, funny place though, no?

Jarreth, He hasn't complained before about it. Hope it doesn't move.

growing pains are weird, sorry - how old?

I remember my bones hurting a lot when i was about 9, DP says it was from 6 - 16. My Mum tells me that growing pains are imaginary and are to be ignored. thanks maternal unit!

srsly though, if it's low, distinctive pain on the lower left of the abdomen. A&E.

He'll be fine x x x

ds2 has something called an "irritable hip" but it does affect his walking - and you say there are no probs in that?
Agree get him checked over asap, far far better to be a panicking concerned mum than leave it

How is he this morning?

There is a lymph gland in the groin area. When I had shingles which got infected , the gland became very swollen and sore.

Hi jareth, thanks for thinking of him. He woke once more in the night upset but was a bit better by this morning. He hasn't complained too much today, I've just heard the odd grumble or ouch every so often. I will keep an eye on him over the weekend.

Sorry I didn't get back earlier today, been a busy one, my birthday today and DD2's on Sunday so have a celebratory weekend planned.

Thanks again for your advice last night.
