Reassure me that I'm being a good nurse mummy

DD1 is nearly three. She has been grumpy for a few days and this morning her nappy, pjs and bed was covered in runny, smelly poo.

I reassured her and gave her a nice warm bubble bath, then she had readybrek and raisins for breakfast with some watered down juice.

She cheered up a bit, and came upstairs to watch me get dressed. She got bored and decided to go downstairs to her Daddy, and, before I could stop her, set off down the stairs. Tbh I wasn't that worried, she usually manages the stairs with no problem at all, so I didn't rush. She fell from about halfway down to the bottom

Lots of tears, but we held a cold flannel on her head where she said it hurt for as long as she would let us (about 20 minutes), gave her some more watered down juice and she was fine.

Since then we have had two more runny, smelly nappies, and she says her bum is sore. it doesn't look red, but I put some cream on anyway. She screamed and arched her back when the cream went on.

She is now sat in front of cbeebies with a blanket round her, eating crisps as a special treat. I've washed everything that has had poo on it at 90 degrees with nappisan, and have made everyone keep washing their hands with antibac soap.

Am I doing it right? Does it sound like just one of those bugs that she will get over? She's meant to be having a swine flu jab at 5pm, but I'm thinking I won't take her, is that right? I have a 3mo DD2 as well, should I be doing anything to stop her getting it?

Reassure a worried mummy...

She's looking tired. Is she safe to have a nap or do I need to keep her awake for concussion?

Re- the poorly tummy, i would just feed her Banana or toast and carry on with the juice or water.

How long ago did she hit her head? As long as she shows no signs of concussion she is probably fine to have a sleep, she's probably tired from being poorly (not from bumping her head).

I would let her nap but check on her regularly. I would avoid the swine flu jag as she isnt 100% and could make the diarrhea worse. If the diarrhea persists for more then a few days then take her to the gp.

thanks. Poor child. We've been lucky enough for her not to have really been ill up to now, so it is odd to see her not feeling herself.

Her bum is red raw. If I was my neighbour I would be on here asking if I should call the police, given the amount of screaming at the top of her lungs I got for wiping her bum and putting sudocrem on. I felt horrible, but if I didn't get a barrier on there the skin would be broken next time I changed her. She was kicking and going all stiff and red as well.

I gave her a cool bath with some camomile teabags in (the only thing I could think of) but she was only clean for half an hour before she pooed again.

What can I do?

Should I be waking her to change her in the night? Her skin looked really painful. Would leaving her nappy off be a good idea?

when dd and ds had a really sore bottom I used a layer of metanium (yellow cream in a yellow tube) with sudocrem on the top. Is she likely to poo while asleep? If not, I would leave her be.
