Almost 2 yr old complaining of sore bottom

DD (who will be 2 at the end of this month) has been complaining on and off for the last couple of days that her bottom is sore. There's no redness or dry skin etc, and I don't think she is constipated (she has gone from 2 poos a day to 1, but it doesn't look like constipated poo IFKWIM - sorry if TMI!). We haven't started potty training yet, so not connected to that.

She can't really be specific about what hurts, but yesterday she told DH it was her front bottom that hurt, and just now when she was complaining (kind of bending double, red-faced and saying ow - bottom sore, and asking us to rub it), when we asked where it hurt she pointed to the front of her crotch. Has anyone got any ideas what it could be? I am wondering about either a bit of constipation (although unlikely), or a urine infection - what would be the signs of that?

I had a similar problem with my dd although it started after she was potty trained. I found the problem comes from not wiping herself after she does a wee, and she is sore on the inside of the vaginal lips. At first I was couldn't see it and nursery was puzzled too but after a day it got sorer and then I could see. I just put sudcreme all over the area and that healed it straight away. Could it be something similar- perhaps due to her urine being acid if she drinks a lot of fruit juice or something?

Possibly, although she doesn't drink any fruit juice (only drinks water and milk); the only fruit she has is fruit purees (don't get me started on her fruit/veg refusal!!), and she hadn't had any for a couple of days before this started, which is partly why I thought it was constipation initially. And it isn't a wiping issue - we always do the wiping as she is still in nappies.

Its so hard when they can't tell you exactly what the problem is

I know- it is hard isn't it, we actually thought she was making it up at first . I just wondered if it might be the same thing, as initially we couldn't see any problem and I had to inspect her quite closely to see it IUSWIM but as I say with my dd did only start when she was potty trained, so probably a different problem. The bending double you mention does sound like it might be a urinary infection so I would take her to the doctor if it doesn't improve soon.

Thanks, I did wonder if she was making it up (she can be a bit of a drama queen!), but she gets so upset I know it is genuine. Will take her to gp if she keeps complaining.

Could it be itchy rather than sore only she doesn't have the vocabulary to describe it a such?

It could be thrush or even worms (although wouldn't be coming from the front if worms).

I would take her to the GP personally.

Hmm, maybe, hadn't thought about itchy - and she does ask us to rub it when it is sore - that could be explained by it being itchy. Will try and make GP appt in the morning.
