Ds is 11 he has suffered with constipation since he was tiny and we still need to keep an eye on him in that department. He has movicol every other day to keep him going.

The problem we have had over the last few months is his breath really really stinks, not just a bit stale, not of garlic or onions or anything like that, but soo nasty nearly all the time.(to be honest like poo)

We took him to the dentist a few weeks ago and he said his teeth were fine, he cleans his teeth regularly and uses a children's mouthwash.

The GP was at a loss but prescribed some proton pump inhibitors for reflux/indigestion? There's been no improvement.

Now it's my turn to be at a loss, I'm so embarrassed on his behalf-strangely he doesn't seem too bothered.

Sorry if I've bored you with this long post, but I'm hoping someone out there has encountered something similar and has some ideas what to do, please

Could it be tonsils that are infected but not infected enough to make him unwell IYSWIM. DD has this issue as soon as she gets a cold!

Does he drink enough fluid? Dry mouth and tounge can give a bad breath. This may also account for the constipation, which is easily caused by dehydration.

Ds 11 gets very stinky breath if he doesn't chew his food properly. Left to his own devices it wouldn't actually be chewed at all but would hit his stomach whole!!! It is then left to sit in his tomach 'rotting'. Yuk!

I am quoting here from another thread in case if is helpful to you -

"my dd2 has had kidney problems from the year dot. she doesn't poo very much...so I know when she's due for a poo as her breath stinks.
she can brush teeth as much as she wants, but her breath will smell sickly sweet."
I hope the poster of that doesn't mind that I have cut and pasted her!

Try some probiotic drinks - Actimel is very good.

Make sure he drinks plenty of water and you could always try some Fennel tea as this is very good to help digestion/bowels.

A sonic toothbrush will also help keep his teeth clean because it cleans below the gumline which is where you can get pockets of rotting food. They're not mega cheap, but do work better than the manual/electric toothbrushes.

Thanks everyone. He probably does need to drink more and we are trying so bio yogs every day. I'm not sure i could get him to drink fennel tea, though it sounds like a good idea.

I read somewhere that because the opening to your stomach closes with a flap, bad breath cannot be caused from tummy problems. But it does seem to me that that is where it must be coming from.

Thanks again. anyone else...
