A quick question about possible Impetigo!

Ds1 gets very sore chapped lips, and to be honest is a bit obsessive about it. He is always wanting vaseline/lip salve to put on them.
Anyway, over the weekend whilst at my mums he has developed red crusty sores all around his lips - at first we thought it was an irritation on teh skin caused by him obsesivelly rubbing in the lipsalve or vaseline, however today it is like yellow scabs and he says its very sore but is still wnating vaseline to rub into his actual lips because they are sore he says.

is it possible that he has got impetigo from this constant rubbing in of vaseline on the lips and the skin round it? it does look like Impetigo to me, but it surely can't be caused by that, can it?

In fact, having thought about it, he has complained on and off for a couple of days about having a sore throat, maybe he's run down and that's whats triggered it off

normally impetigo is yellow and crusty. He sounds as if he is licking his lips too much and making them red and chapped. Difficult to diagnose without piccy.

Well whatever it is, it's gone all yeollw and crusty now and has spread to his chin too! I can't belive this started because of dry lips!

yes it def sounds like impetigo the way it is spreading.
DS1 has probably spread the staph infections which occur naturally in the nose on to his lips.
He will probably need some flucloxacillin and some fucidin cream or ointment.....trip to the docs before it spreads more on him and to others.
