Can't get DC to take her medicine. It's either spat out, gargled, then spat out or dribbled out and is probably only getting about 2ml rather than 5ml in each dose if I'm lucky. Have you any ideas. Am using a syringe but have also tried a spoon and that was spectacularly bad. The whole process is awful with dc becoming hysterical each time a dose is due and the medicine appears.

I have found that with children at work(nurse) that if you give via syringe it works bets. The biggest tip is to put the syringe into their mouth but don't press the plunger immediatly. The first thing that they will do when you put the syringe in spit, so if you the when they have had that first spit, slowly put a little in, and it doesn't seem to come out !
Hope that makes sense

i've had this problem for 5 years, dd (5) never ever ever ever ever takes any medicine orally and i've had to mix it in with her milk which sometimes works though sometimes she can taste it n then she won't finish it. she doesn't use soothers either so that wouldn't work.

but best to check with your doctor if mixing it with milk affects the medicine's efficacy in any way though my doctors don't seem to mind. but they just said to make sure it's finished if it's antibiotics.

ok tried it with juice this morning and that didn't work. disagreed over the next dose so both ended up covered in it. Will try the next one with fromage frais. DC doesn't use a dummy so I don't think nappyaddicts idea will work but thanks anyway. lullabye will give your idea a go too. I think its the taste as DC is fine with Calpol. Next time I'll see if I can get a different flavour. This one is orange.

Thanks for the advice, the fromage frais was a sucess. DC ate about 90% of the first one and was scraping the bottom of the second. Wouldn't touch the one with lunch but was exhausted now sleeping bed and I'll try again later. I'm worried about the quantity missed with all the spitting and gargling that has been going on, do you think I need to get another presciption to carry it on for a few extra day? Might try phoning GP later but I think they're a bit swamped at the moment
