Bathtime washing Excema - when have Mums moved to using soap/gel/shampoo instead of just water?

I have been washing my 9month ds in his daily bath just using water. This seems to be cleaning him up just fine but now I'm thinking once he starts in nursery and gets really grubby I should start using mild soap/gel/shampoo etc. What do people recommend?

Also he has excema on his cheeks that are very dry and the emollient doesn't really help. Any ideas on creams that could help?

my kids are 2 4 and 7 and we pretty much only use water. Do use shampoo though
soap every now and then on grubby feet

My ds is eight and has water only baths, unless his eczema is a bit rough (back of knees etc) then I slosh a bit of oilatum in.

But trying not to think about adolescence!

I get aveeno cream which we use every day and night on my little boy. In his bath he has aveeno bath stuff and if he gets v dirty l wash him using aqueous cream. My Ds is 5 now but he had it bad from 3 months until 4 is nt. You should trial the different creams from your doc. There is a big list to work through. It was a huge deal when we finally found a cream that works. My first Gp was terrible so l asked around to find somebody with a specialist interest within a few months we had it under control. His cheeks were the worse too.

Shampoo-johnsons
This has worked wonders Eucerin

My daughters skin is much better when I use this in the bath then rinse with fresh water from shower.

Quite oily so rinse bath afterwards or you might slip really hurt your knee and rip down the shower curtain.

I don't use any soap or shampoo - just water on DD's hair and oilatum junior in the bath. I love oilatum, it works well for us and you can feel the soft layer of oil on her skin when shw comes out of the water.

The boots expert baby sensitive stuff is very good, as is the Little Me (no SLS in this either)
We use the Little Me shampoo, and an aqueous type cream from the doctor. I slather him with that before he gets in the bath and then it works like a cleanser.

you need to use something like diprobath or oilatum. i use epaderm instead of soap. infaderm shampoo is very good.

I second the Aveeno cream. It has completely cleared up my daughter's eczema - we just use it after her bath. When bathtime comes around again I can still feel that it is working.

Yesterday I used shampoo on her for the first time in ages (she is 1 with not much hair) and seems to be OK. Will probably only use once or twice a week till she has more hair.

I don't know if it helps, but I'm an eczema sufferer and I still wash only with water (age 39), I don't think I smell that much

I do use aqueous cream to wash my hands, it also helps keep the eczema under control on them.
